plucking hair from upper lips

i know dat plucking eyebrows is strictly prohibited in Islam but i wanna know dat plucking upper lips is also haraam or not?

btw i dont have thick upper lips so dont anyone dare imagine me like dat :barbie:

just asking…

re: plucking hair from upper lips

That in itself is a contentious issue. If you believe it is strictly prohibited (I don’t) then by the same line of reasoning upper lip hair removal should also be prohibited.

Its absolutely fine for a muslim woman to remove upper lip hair.

re: plucking hair from upper lips

i believe dat it is strictly prohibited on da base of hadith but i asked for a confirm answer and you are saying ''it shud be'' so please if u have a source or hadith den let me know

re: plucking hair from upper lips

AsSalaamo Alaikum,

The hadith that I have come across only mentions Tattoos, and plucking eyebrows to change their shape (making them thinner, or altering their shape). I have not come across any hadiths about plucking of upper lips yet. Can you please cite the hadith that you’re referring to?

About plucking upper lips: Removal of women's facial hair - Islam Question & Answer

Here’s the reference to Plucking of Eyebrows/Tattoos. Evidence that tattooing, plucking the eyebrows and filing the teeth is haraam - islamqa.info

re: plucking hair from upper lips

I was taught that eyebrows were ok if you had a unibrow or something as it would be classed as a ‘deformity’ (not really the right word lol but am sure you know what I mean).. I think hair on the upper lip might fall under the same category..

This site takes a stricter line than others but mentions it being allowed: What is the hair that it is permissible to remove and the hair that it is not permissible to remove? - islamqa.info

You will probably find more conservative scholars who say it’s not allowed but I think that’s a minority view..

re: plucking hair from upper lips

mounchen ... is not the same as upper lips

re: plucking hair from upper lips

Islam meN to hai k:

"moochheN kaTaao, daaRhii baRhaao"

jab mardoN ke liye aisaa Hukm hai to phir aurtoN ko hoNToN par se baal nikaalne par kaise paabandii ho saktii hai?

re: plucking hair from upper lips

If they pluck the upper lip then their front teeth will show ... you people are talking about plucking the mouchen ... right?

moustache ... pluck

Not the upper lip - that would look hideous - just imagine people without an upper lip !!!

So aurtain should also darhee baraaho?

re: plucking hair from upper lips

lol...sure, why not...if they have it! ;)

i've seen one old woman back home who had a few hairs on her chin and she did not cut it...those hair were like 3-5 inches long. :D she used to hide them under her DopaTTa. :)

re: plucking hair from upper lips

Wht i Heard k jo bal aurat ko mard se mushabat de like upper lips you can remove those hairs

re: plucking hair from upper lips

so just out of curiosity.....why is plucking the eyebrows considered "changing Allah's creation" but not plucking the hair on the upper lip?
my initial instinct is to assume that changing the shape of the eyebrows alters your appearance somewhat but so does removing upper lip hair.....

I can give you guys a technical answer that you can take to the bank and cash it.

Eyebrow is the hair strip grown on the ridge, that is the hard bone right above your eye lid. Any growth of hair above and below that ridge is not part of your eyebrow, just like the hair that connect both sides to make it a unibrow are not part of eyebrow. Any hair that is not part of eyebrow can be removed.

It's just like Daarhee for men. Daarhee literally means strip of hair on your Daarh, or jaw bone. Men are allowed to shave cheek hair and growth under and around the throat line.

Sincerely,
Mufti TLK

Re: plucking hair from upper lips

or maybe....technically speaking.....the eyebrows are visible even when niqab is practised so you're not to mess with them?

Because if one messes with them, then it will be hard to tell if it's rukhsana or farzana behind the naqaab

Lol you are funny

Re: plucking hair from upper lips

lol...magar mardoN ke liye kia farq paRtaa hai k RuKhsaana yaa hai Farzaana? kiuN k ek gaane meN thaa k:
**
kuchh farq nahiiN naam ho teraa
Razia ho yaa Radhaa!
va'da teraa va'daa!** :D

Re: plucking hair from upper lips

I've always found the 'changing Allah's creation' argument a bit dodgy.. there are just so many exceptions to it (obviously cutting your hair is allowed, so is waxing your legs, wearing makeup etc etc)..

I know one of the reasons that eyebrows are mentioned specifically is because prostitutes in the time of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) used to do it..
