I know that this is something that is commonly done by most Muslim women, but there is such a strong ahadith against it:
In al-Saheeh, it was reported that Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “Allaah has cursed the women who do tattoos and those who have this done, the women who pluck eyebrows and those who have this done, and the women who file their teeth and change the creation of Allaah.” Then he said: “Should I not curse those whom the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed, when it says in the Qur’aan (interpretation of the meaning): ‘… And whatsoever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you, abstain (from it)…’ [al-Hashr 59:7]”
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The woman who plucks facial hair and the woman who has this done are cursed.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari and Muslim).
This is not to target any of the sisters, rather a friendly reminder of a practise that is very common in our society.

Wassalam
What if facial hair make appear moustache or beard on women's face and they dont remove them then they would be loking like men and those women are also cursed who make appearance like men.
Now what ? Are women that good curse material ? Why are they cursed bypassing threshold of common sense.
Pinks It is better to investigate rulling, commands and understand what it means before forwarding it to already confused muslims. if you read the last line
*"and change the creation of Allaah.” *
It is more likely that the command is about completely removing eyebrows by plucking them off. As eyebrows are standard part of face (creation of Allah) And removing them is changing it.
It might be the custom or fashion in those days that women used to do this, and it was forbidden. Shaping eyebrows is not changing the creation of Allah, its just fixing it.
Similarly, shapping one's beard is not equal to shaving it completley. Although both procedures involve removal of facial hairs, but former is encouraged and later is discouraged for muslim men.
yeah i read the whole thread, and still couldn;t cum to the conclusion whether its right or worng :(
I dunno mayb its me but i dont think that islam is that complicated a religion or that harsh a religion that plucking ure eyebrows is haraam, i suppose its all depends on ure intentions, i dont get my eyebrows threaded so that i can attract men, i mean my eyeybrows grow back so quickly that if i didnt pkuck them or get them threaded it would impair my vision, like i said i myt b wrong, but i just think its silly saying its haraam, and i really dont think it is
as far as i had my understanding about this subject, i was told women are NOT supposed to look like men, infact they were allowed to pluck facial hai if it made them look like a man.
However the eyebrows i’m not sure but i read someware that you can pluck the middle of it to distinguish both brows (incases of mono-brows)
but the shaping the actual eyebrow was permitted only if you dont do it in a visable manner
the hadith isn’t referring to other kinds of hair on face, is it? In fact, women are obliged to remove those hair (any facial hair except eyebrows) by any means to adorn themselves for their husbands.
I think i already answered this. I don’t find any correlation between shaping the beard and shaping the eyebrows. Because one does affect your overall look but the other one doesn’t. Even if i go with your argument then what kind of styles will you use to shape the eyebrows, modern? This will fall under imitating kafirs and adopting wrong means.

Wrong, it falls under "fashions change after 1400 years". it doesn't fall under imitating kafirs and adopting wrong means anymore than using computers and the internet does.
I think it also falls under "God doesn't care about such irrelvant matters such as plucking the eyebrows".

JazakAllah brother....
The strict scholars say that we can't pluck even one hair from eyebrows but the others say only completely removing the eyebrows is haram and shaping them is permissible.

Can you provide proof to back this claim?
As far as I'm aware the beard is only that which grows on the jawbone, the hair on the cheeks and neck is not part of the beard.
I think a well groomed beard with the excess hair around it removed looks quite handsome, especially on the young TJ brothers, a beard starting under the eyes is not pretty.
It is better to deplete than to shave because shaving leaves an unnaturally straight line and messes the complexion up..

So bascially, after 1400 years, there is no consensus. Doesn't that say something? Like maybe stop listening to scholars for every single interpretation and think for yourself. It probably is also indicative that cultural things like grooming are exactly that - cultural. Not religious.
I read somewhere that some sensitive nerves connected with brain lie directly under the eye brows and when one plucks hair from that area, it hurts the nerves and has negative effect on the functions of the same nerves.
I dont know what those nerves are resposible for (I mean what funtions of the brain). Maybe someone can research a bit and enlighten us.

Difference of opinions is permissible in Islam. I believe you may interprete yourself if you have more or atleast the same knowledge of a scholar.
Walikum salam, Thankyou for the links i have read them.
If shaping beard is not equel to shaving it off. then how come shapping eyebrows is equellent to removing them off completely ?
I want you to concentrate on these words
"and change the creation of Allaah.”
**
Now if a child is born with slightly deformed foot, **would it be changing the creation of Allah if parents opt for medical treatment to make it normal ?
Now according to your argument both chopping off the foot and curing the abnormality by medical treatment comes under the defination of **"change the creation of Allaah.” **
According to my argument if we chop off the foot of child then it would be " changing the creation of Allaah.” and it would be not allowed .However medical treatment is perfectly allowed because it is fixing the problem with help of knowlege and brain Allah has given to man and it is perfectly allowed
If today I pledge to lead my life like an honest, lawabiding and peace loving citizen then i would be imitating kuffar of scandinavia ? in this modern era ?
