please share your tricks that make your Roza go better

Lessons learned, Best Practice ..some neat stuff that you learned that can add some value and make our fasting easy for us ..

Here is what Niks and I learned.

  1. If you stop eating for more then 15 minutes, you loose your hunger, so giving a gap between iftaar and Dinner actually makes us eat less as we would not be hungry for Dinner, even if we had only little chaat and one khajoor for Iftaar.

So we combine our iftar and Dinner and finish it as one meal.

  1. Some antacid in sehri not only prevent heart burn but remove smell of mouth during day time.

Shareyours .. I wmay come back for more

Re: please share your tricks that make your Roza go better

^oh yeah thats wat we do too. iftari+dinner.

Re: please share your tricks that make your Roza go better

i will have a fruit yogurt, and two dates (khajoor) in the shehri (along with either cereal, or kabab paratha).

yogurt keeps your body cool, and khajor maintains your sugar level.

Re: please share your tricks that make your Roza go better

We almost always go back to bed after Sehri and take a small nap (2 hours usually :D) .. that freshens us up for the rest of the day.

Usually after going through sehri+namaz, i sleep and wake up after 2 hours for office. (Thats one deep sleep I get) At that time I feel kinda dizzy with heavy head.

Does anyone have any solution for this?

me too :p not my hubby though as he goes to work early :p

SID, I can totally relate to the deep sleep part.

Do you drink coffee or Tea at sehri? We started mixing half regular, half decaf but still take our caffeine. That in my case makes me wake up pretty fresh.

Re: please share your tricks that make your Roza go better

  1. I do wudu for fajr before I eat sehri - otherwise I have a hard time going back to sleep

  2. Cooking an hour or so before Iftar is actually pretty good. It makes me less hungry.

  3. I make sure everything is out like ingredients wise for sehri - it gives me about 15 minutes of more sleep

  4. Totally caffine free for the month of Ramadan

Yes, I do take a cup of tea in sehri. If I dont, that gives birth to a headache for the whole day. :(

How can you quit so easily

Re: please share your tricks that make your Roza go better

Muniya - we are quitting everything else - what's one more thing. :)

Start taking 2 Tylenols with your Sehri's cup of tea. I am serious. That should help.

yeh but then the nausiating headache that I have all day is unbearable.

Hmm..I usually avoid any pain killlers but let me try that... Thanks

what is the advantage of that? Unless you are not planing to switch back to caffeine even after Ramadan.

Re: please share your tricks that make your Roza go better

I watch youtube videos on cooking if I really feel hungry. They make me feel like I have eaten, so I switch off and get about my biniz again :bummer: Just one of two short videos…

Re: please share your tricks that make your Roza go better

TLK - I am not a big caffine person. It goes straight to my brain which is hyper as it is.

If I have it for sehri - I can't go to back to sleep and if I have if for iftar - I can't go to sleep

Pre/post Ramadan - I just take a sip out of hubby's chai /coffee

Re: please share your tricks that make your Roza go better

If you eat a LARGE sehri - you can put two pillows or a gao tikkia under your head - if you can't sleep.

Re: please share your tricks that make your Roza go better

I do not do anything different . My sahri is same as my breakfast , Oatmeal , Iftar is light too. I need to reduce weight. I have promised myself not to buy anymore bigger size pants and to go back to my original size. I cannot go back to sleep . I do take a short nap in my car under a tree during lunch hour.
As for bahlowing the roza , at work I am too busy so no pains . When I come back home from work I take care of my front and back yard all those colorful flowers calm down my soul, then I help my wife with Iftari and dinner preparation , as everybody else eats and eats. Half hour before iftar I do 30 minutes treadmill. I am too motivated about losing weight so it is not difficult for me to be on treadmill in the last half hour of the fast. :bummer:

Re: please share your tricks that make your Roza go better

I used to get excruciating headaches till I started having milk and dates for Sehri.
Now i don't get any headaches alhumdullilah and neither to I feel hunger pangs throughout the day.
