I actually agree with Yanzala here. No offense to any one but they are always confused whether they are Pakistanis? Brit? Americans? .. then they resolve to call them British muslims or something but the personality confusions of here or there never go away. A child should be clear of his origin where ever he belongs, the personalities tend to be confused other wise.
The confusion is even true for Pakistanis that come from Pakistan to the US though...even more so there because they want to let go of everything Pakistani. They make an effort to become Americanized where ABCDs make an effort to strike a balance.
I wasn't talking about girls only even boys r that way.
Well it all depends on who we have met that give us that impression. None of the girls in my family in Pakistan are dependent in any way maybe cuz they are in Karachi. My cousins use public transportation alone without hesitation they drive they work go to college university. Well aware of fashion politics and showbiz stuff. But girls and boys too arent usually like that here not the one I have seen they seems confused and somehow their thinking seems limited.
I do not mean it to be offensive it was an observation only. My own siblings where brought up here and even in them I see a lot of difference from how I was at their age.
Absolutely. My experiences have given me impressions of girls being dependent and too needy. I feel like they have led such sheltered lives and normal things girls do here are too bold for them. I dont expect them to understand so we dont talk about things like having a job. Similarly, I dont understand when they discuss what Nadia Khan was wearing on her last show or if she had a baby or if she showed up with her head screwed on backward. Fashion, politics and showbiz are not all there is to life, there is much more a girl should be aware of and consist of. But I dont sense that among people that come here...I find their personalities stinted. Oh and they look at us like we're all aliens...lol.
As for the confusion part, I think anyone being brought up with strong influences of two cultures will be confused as an adolescent but probably much more rounded as a grown up. I feel lucky and blessed because I can understand and enjoy being desi and western without having to completely be either one.
All these ppl saying this stuff…do you think about how it will be paid for? It’s easy to afford all these things and then some if you have foreign income (dollars/pounds etc) coming in, but I doubt it will be THAT easy living in Pakistan, working in Pakistan, to afford shopping sprees and lazy/spoiled lifestyles.
I won’t lie, asked me a few years ago and the only benefit I could have thought of was good food and good fashion easily available. But Pakistan is so much more than just that.
No, but big homes, lots of shopping, having maids do everything for you certainly is.
There are many - the culture, exposure to a different life style and values for your kids, access to relatives, opportunity to give back, teach your kids art, urdu literature/poetry.
You can only answer this question yourself. Come to Pakistan live here for a few days, then few weeks. If you dont go insane then live for a few months if you still dont go insane then you probably already were ...
but jokes aside that is the only way to know. People will say things, but in the end it you who has to stay there.
advantages are:
larger homes
attached bathrooms in each room ( most of the time thats how homes are setup)
if your into desi clothes, great place to shop
you dont need to cook, clean or drive if ur from upper class. you will have soemone to do all those things for u
if ur inlaws are rich, they must already own a house so no worries about paying mortgage.
it depends on the economic situation of the family.
plenty of 3-4 bedroom flats with 2 bathrooms
or homes without an attached bath for every room
as I said the question is how well off the folks are, because how one lives varies very significantly there.
one thing that I dont get is why would someone from some elite family have to work as a security guard? the only reason I am bringing it up is because people are assuming the life in Pakistan based on the impressions of what the elites live like. So the standard of life in Pakistan may be getting a little overstated.
