^ The high and low in humanity as in sin vs pious...you know how at times a human is so sinfull and at times the same human (person) is so pious and does so many good deeds that its hard to believe that the same human (person) did something sinful. :)

I personally think Adam was first prophet NOT first human (as humans are in their present form). Quran and Bible both describe his creation in detail and Iblies' refusal to bow to him and they also say that he was father of whole mankind that leads to conclusion among religious communities around the world that he was a first man on the earth. In my own viewpoint, he shouldn't have been on planet earth more than 50,000 years ago but scientists recently found remains of humans dating back to hundred thousand years so it could be that there was another kind of life or people were living on earth before God created Adam or scientists are wrong in estimating the age of those bones. In any case, God knows better. Coming back to your questions:
Q. Was he first prophet?
A. Yes
Q. Was he patriarch of present day humans?
A. Yes
Q. Was he first so called human?
A. not sure.
Scientifically speaking, answers to the first two questions could be -ve as well but being muslim I do believe that he was first prophet and our patriarch.

By calling him a symbol of high and low and then explaining it further, aren't you suggesting that he was invested with the capability of committing a sin by nature?

You can asume what ever pleases you but to find out the truth you should read about him the best source I would sugest is Quran otherwise you can ask anyone's opinion and than asume what ever pleases you. :)

First human, scientifically speaking ... no.

Most religious people have trouble accepting this - and will deny any scientific theory, even if there is overwelming evidence, because if they accept **one **discrepency in religion then they cannot deny other discrepencies.
And soon their religious beliefs are shaken to the core - since they have been brainwahed since birth that these are the words of God, and not even a comma can be changed!!.

I know. But thats okay. As long as we know what the truth is. We have had homoerectus, neandarthals, homosapiens and other primates living for 0-4 million years. There fossilized skulls can be seen in most natural history museums. Dont worry about religious group, they be able to put a religious spin to it, just like they did after accepting that earth is not at the center of the solar system.
