Platinum Jublee Match India v/s Pakistan

did he talk in english?and how was it?

I think it was Salman and Afridi who changed the game for Pakistan. Afridi was the only bowler who kept the Indian batting line-up. And Salman But…well no words to desribe him…he was amazing :jhanda: :jhanda:

oh yes he did. Very fluently and confidently with no grammatical mistakes at all. :k:

Tou jaa kar PHD kare naa, Cricket khel kar hamari kiyu le raha hai???

:konfused: :konfused: :konfused:

:frusty: why the hell does it matter if he can speak english or not. Geez, when will you people stop being embarrased about it. IT’S NOT OUR MOTHER TONGUE. VERY FEW JAPANESE CAN FLUENTLY SPEAK ENGLISH. DOES THAT HINDER THEM IN ANY WAYS. BEING FLUENT IN ENGLISH DOES NOT ALWAYS EQUATE WITH BEING WELL-EDUCATED. :frusty:

salman sahib will complete his phD and at the same time torment you for the next decade plus. :dixsi:

I hate to bring this up again, but yes, given the japanese don’t speak english and they do well, but how many public relations people or company CEOs - even in Japan, have you seen who don’t speak it… if you’re a public figure - moreover an international public figure (read cricketers), you are representing the whole nation… not that you need to be fully and fluently conversant, but you should be at a decent level to communicate and express.

look I would LOVE it if our cricketers were fluent. But I don't give a damn either way. Brazil is my favorite team in football. I have yet to hear ronaldo, rivaldo, ronaldinho, romario etc etc etc speak one word of english. Everytime they give an interview, it's in portugese with voiceover in english or in the press conference they have a interpreter. So does Yao Ming, arguably the most marketable player in the NBA. Just because ronaldo doesn't speak english doesn't mean I have any less respect for him. I absolutely hate pakis hanging their head in shame when inzi has hard time speaking in english. I wonder if brazilians feel ashamed when ronaldo struggles with the english language. My bet would be NO.

There is no problem if someone cant speak english.. cuz english isnt their first language.. but what bothers me is why speak broken english and stupid english if u cant speak it. .why not use a translator? specially if u are captain of the team or if u are someother high figure in the politics or in the team.. i have never been able to figure this out..

well said, Atlanta. I totally agree.

I never said anything about feeling ashamed... the point is that when you represent your country, you should do so professionally... yes, the first order of professionalism is how you play in the field - no doubt and no question... but as a secondary skill, it doesn't hurt to be conversant in a language you know others will be communicating with you in - there's no denying that english indeed is the modus operandi across the globe.

Secondly, I agree with what Pakistanee said about using a translator, and just speaking in Urdu... no tooti phooti angraizi. I'd like that too!

Atlanta-- Nobody is saying that we are ashamed if they cant speak fluently. But to see a young boy full of confidence on the biggest stage of his life was refreshing to say the least. This is what I meant.

Okay, how could I not know about this match-up, I logon and someone messages me saying "to rub it in or to let it go, hmm that is the question".

Happy Eid to everyone.

Disgusted India coach warns players to shape up or ship out](Yahoo is part of the Yahoo family of brands.)

NEW DELHI (AFP) - India’s cricket coach John Wright took a swipe at his losing team, saying the players must show the “hunger to win” to overcome the current slump or be ready to face the axe.

Wright, the former New Zealand Test captain, said he was very disappointed with India’s recent performances which saw them lose four consecutive one-dayers to arch-rivals Pakistan and also concede their first home Test series to Australia since 1969.

“I want more hunger and the hunger to win,” the 50-year-old told the Mid-Day newspaper ahead of the first Test against Graeme Smith’s South Africa starting at the Green Park stadium in Kanpur on Saturday.

“We are up against a side that will show a lot of commitment and character. It is going to be a tough series and we have to match it.”

Wright said no player in the Indian team, which comprises some of the game’s top stars like Sachin Tendulkar, captain Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag, could take his place for granted.

“There are a lot of people who want to play for India and if people are not performing well, then they should not stay because of reputation or whatever reasons,” the newspaper quoted Wright as saying.

“Personally, I can cope with defeats but when I see carelessness, lack of effort on and off the field, it is hard to tolerate.”

India, World Cup finalists last year, failed to win four one-day tournaments since August in Sri Lanka, the Netherlands and England and lost the Test series to Australia 2-1.

Ganguly’s men also suffered a six-wicket defeat against Pakistan in Saturday’s one-day international in Calcutta which was played to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Indian cricket board.

Wright said the time had come to prepare for the next World Cup in the West Indies in 2007.

“Our one-day form has been disappointing,” he said. "We need to take another look at the balance of the side and consistency of individual performances, just a whole overview of getting back to some of the things we were doing well.

"We also must take some decisions with an eye to the future particularly with people who you need to take forward until 2007.

“I think we need to have a close look at our one-day cricket.”

Wright hoped the team will emulate its performance last season when it drew the Test series in Australia 1-1 and won both the Test and one-day series in Pakistan.

“We have to pick ourselves up and get back to the levels we were playing in Pakistan and Australia,” he said.

"We have lost ten per cent and maybe more. I want to get that ten per cent.

“I want us to have this attitude of getting the results we want by showing discipline to achieve our goals. We must have absolute determination and hunger to win.”

Wright declined to speak on Ganguly’s two-match ban for slow over-rates which could see the captain miss both Tests against South Africa at Kanpur (Nov 20-24) and Calcutta (Nov 28-December 2).

I don't knw if something is gonna be done abt these nonperforming players..and also lookig at the 2007 world cup, India has to make some choices..for god sake they should kick out laxman and kumble right now..and also agarkar..bring some more players to the rooster and see things changing..

well i am replying so late...but i think its oaky....rite/????...cuuz i think that the joy of the match is still there...isn't it????
