Plan your wedding budget

You’ve got £2000/$3,250.99 and in Pakistani RS. 278,476.30 .

Please state how much you’re going to spend on your dress, make up, catering, decorations, photo sessions etc.

I wanna see if it’s possible to get married in this amount.

Re: Plan your wedding budget

Why not?

You would have to keep it REALLY simple though.

Re: Plan your wedding budget

hmmmm......what do you call a simple marriage?

Re: Plan your wedding budget

I got married in $2000 so yeah.

Our rings cost $99 each.
Cost of hall/food for 80 people was $1500.
My wedding outfit was a gift from my parents, husband's suit was from his parents.
Registration of wedding was...don't remember but not much.
And then we paid some tips to the guys who did valet parking at the hall.

14 years later, when I look back, I am like, WOW!

Re: Plan your wedding budget

That sounds very cute Niksik. I think you guys did pretty well.

Re: Plan your wedding budget

We were poor :naak:

But looking back, I have no regrets. Trust me, it can still be done.

Re: Plan your wedding budget

Yeah it can be done if yo miss out 80 guests. :hehe:

Re: Plan your wedding budget

I am usually not the one to give advise based upon religion. But I find a particular quote said by our Prophet (pbuh) helpful to keep in mind during my shaadi preparations:

"The best of the marriages is one which is least burdensome in the financial sense to the families of both the bride and the groom"

I personally am choosing not to have a mehndi, mayoun, etc. ... that is really saving on costs. My rule for inviting guests "If they have never come over to our house and we have never gone to theirs.. they do not get an invite". People will be offended. But I truly believe it is important to have only those ppl at your wedding who are a part of your life and only have the best wishes in their hearts for you. Random people in the community who you do not even know that well... .... well eh.

Doing things like wearing your mother's bridal outfit with some updated modifications can cut costs. I know some brides have done this on here and others have contemplated it, including myself. Not only does it save money, but it is also sentimental.

Do the makeup yourself or ask a trusted and gifted friend to do it.

Majority of the money will go into renting a hall (does not have to be the plaza or anything) and catering. I have been to small and intimate mehndis, mayouns, and walimas where its a smaller more intimate gathering and the family themselves along with their good friends cook the food themselves.

There are a lot of creative things one can do and get ideas for on the internet in regards to decorations as well.

Have friends videotape the wedding and take pictures. Or hire a photographer to take pictures but only ask for the CD with the pictures on it. When one has the money later on, they can have albums made, pictures enlarged, etc.

I think it is possible to get everything you want... it would just be on a much smaller scale.

Re: Plan your wedding budget

$3,250.99

You can find a decent room to rent out for about $150 or so...in fact I found one for a small party we were thinking of having.

Breakdown:

$200 - party room
$500 - food for 50 people at $10/head
$300 - wedding bands
$400 - wedding outfit from devon ave
$200 - men's tux
$200 - gifts
$50 - party make up for the bride
$500 - photography

I cant think of anything else...you still have $900.99 left to play with which will probably end up covering miscellaneous expenses.

Re: Plan your wedding budget

I want a simple wedding too…so this amount is good to start with.

:hugz: nikki baji :k:

Re: Plan your wedding budget

Just curious, what kind of hall/food is served at $10 per head?

Do we have the option of having the wedding in the country of our choice? :hehe:

Re: Plan your wedding budget

You can get private caterers, you know aunties who cook from their homes? A substantial menu usually costs from $10-12 per head and includes stuff like: one appetizer, one rice dish, 2 salans, one veg, raita, salad, naan and a dessert.

At our wedding we had an Arabic food menu: beef meatballs, roast chicken, roasted potatoes, rice, pita, salad, and a fruit/dessert bar. First they served hummus/pickles/pita. I've never eaten better food...I mean it was amazing, served banquet style (except the fruit/dessert). The decorations all came with the hall that also had their own chef and valet, waiters, etc., and a prayer hall. The place was owned by a friend's friend so he cut us a good deal at $15 per head.

Re: Plan your wedding budget

^ ooo that's awesome.....

Re: Plan your wedding budget

Yup! Ive paid even as little as $7 per head for a very good menu because the people I found were starting out and needed the business.

Niks, that wedding menu sounds DELISH!

Re: Plan your wedding budget

Best way to minimize costs is to try to find vendors who are freshly starting out, they can be just as good as the ones who've been working for many years but just need the opportunity to gain credibility/experience!

Re: Plan your wedding budget

ours was under Rs. 278,476.30 but then it was in Pakistan and I had my rukhsati from my house.. we didn't rent a hall since I wanted to leave from the house where I grew up and because I could feel my dad's presence in the living room even though he had passed away severeal years ago!

we had a mehndi function with my friends n family.. my bil made the video and my best friend (who went from the US for shadi) took pics with her Nikon D90..even though the parlor got me a photoshoot done included in the package of Rs. 10,000.. it was the best bridal make up ever and great pics (the only regret he never gave me the cd but just the album so I can't scan any of those pics) but most of my shadi pics were taken from my friends camera who did a great job!!

my lehnga for first day cost only Rs. 20,000 from Mohsin and Sons in pindi, and my valima lehnga was from some shop in gaghar plaza in pindi for Rs. 15,000 and paid only RS. 500 to get it stitched.. I still regret spending that money on lehngas so I planning to donate one of them and keeping one for my daughter!

I didn't take any jahaiz except some gold and about 25 joray that my mom had given me.. I only had 5 heavy embroidery outfit and rest of them were simple shalwar qameez since I didn't have any to wear in Pakistan where I was going to live after rukhsati!!

for gifts, all my family n friends gave us money and we bought some furniture and a used car in Karachi :D

oh and food was the only major cost but it was done the traditional way where the halwai makes lots of daigs of palao, chicken, meat, gajr halwa, and that salad, raita etc... that was about Rs, 5o,000 for 60-70 people.. again just family n friends!

and I had my rukhsati in 2007 so it wasn't long time ago.. low budget shadi but totally worth it.. I loved everything about my shadi.. I would have it even more smple if I could convince my mom to do the rukhsati in shalwar qameez :D

Re: Plan your wedding budget

are not you way too late to open this thread?

Re: Plan your wedding budget

Its so easy to get caught up in rasmein and revaaj. :(

When I got married, it was not lavish but definitely much more than I should have spent.

The most happy marriages I know are from the most humble beginnings...its how it should be.

If I do the whole marriage bit again...its going to be small and simple.

Re: Plan your wedding budget

Im gonna save a lot money from food and makeup/hair, because my dad is a professional cook, and sister hairdresser/makeup artist :)
I cant plan a budget because really I have no idea what everything costs, maybe after 3-4 years I know, when hopelly my wedding is...I just have to find the groom.. :D
