pills and fast

don’t know if this would be more appropriate in Religion or not, move it as suited.

but since this addresses the ladies, i thought this forum might be better.

Today I heard (on the radio) about using the pill to postpone the periods. Now there was this proposition for discussion:

are ladies allowed to take the (contraceptive) pill for a few days in order to postpone their period so that they can perform the fast uninterruptedly

Of course the major aim of the pill is to reduce the chance of conceptions, but it can also be used to control the periodic hormonal changes…so wat do ladies here think of this idea? I can imagine it can be a hussle and tussle to make up for lost rozays on ur own later on

I have never ever heard of any women taking the pill in ramzan, i know that some do when doing Hajj or umrah but in ramzan..no

i make up for lost rozay after eid cos thats what my mum did and u know..it makes sense.

Personally i would never take the pill, it totally mucks up ur "system" so to speak..from what iv heard anyway

I think if a woman is taking the pill, she should just take it on her regular schedule. I'd rather just makeup the rozas. Wouldn't want to take the pill for more consecutive days than you're supposed to.

MM, and Sahar: u'd be surprised how safe the pill actually is. women often are afraid that delaying their period (with pills) might be harmful, but in fact if u take it according to prescription there's nothig wrong at all........u might even take the pills and never menstruate again, no prob!

^ I thought one should menstruate at least a few times in a year?

^from what i've heard, it doesn't need to....if u take the right amounts it's no prob

Re: pills and fast

Would it therefore also lead to less unstable moods once a month?

Meaning that if, say, a married man were to slip his wife the contraceptive pill regularly it would make her less susceptable to mood swings around that time? :halo:

Its not abt being afraid to take it, its abt knowing what goes wrong with women who have taken it..

ur a man..u dnt know..u dnt know wot its like to bleed once a month without dying!! :p

I know its off topic, but contraceptive pills are protective against ovarian and endometrial cancer.

That’s true Proud Pakistani. It’s quite common for women to develop benign ovarian cysts that can rupture. These really can mess up your cycle. Doctor’s tend to prescribe the pill to control the growth of the cyst and stabalize the menstrual cycle.

Doesn’t the pill also create crazy mood swings and cause weight gain?

why do you CARE?

:hoonh:

But i dont think that its needed for ramadaan. Allah has made things easier. Just make up later on for the days that you miss.

yeah MehnazQ there are some risks also. They cause DVT's specially if you smoke and also weight gain. I really dont know about the mood swings.

I’ve always wondered about that.

hmm id rather just makeup the roze.. than put on about 5kg of weight :halo:

people in my family (back in pakistan) do take the pill in order to keep all the roze.. i dont think its that big of a deal to miss a few and make up for them though… i still have to wake up for sehri and pretend im fasting thru the entire day… the things i have to do Sigh

or you could not and let anyone who asks know that you've got your period...

^ i coudl do that... actually im drinkign chai out of my tim hortons mug at this moment.. the muslim uncle i work with must know!!

but yeah i still gotta wake up at home.. i look at it this way.... at least i get to spend every morning during this month of ramzan with my family :)

awww well that's shweet.

awww shuks

ppl, we’re not discussing the pros and cons of the pill. nor the indications.

It’s just a question whether taking the pills for a couple of weeks only is a good idea to ensure you can fast without interruption.

and these few weeks won’t make u gain weight, so don’t worry.

I personally, would see it as a good opportunity to keep all the rozay…keeping in mind how much ladies complain about their periods etc, i thought it would be a welcome relief for u ppl…i guess u see it otherwise?
