Pig toys

Parents…would you let your kids play with pig toys?

Of course pig is haram to eat…but what about toys and cartoons?

I know alot of parents take it really seriously, like they would NEVER allow pig toys in the house and go crazy if a cartoon comes on or somethin…for example, my nephew got a piggy bank set as a birthday gift and his mother hid it away :hehe:

Me on the other hand, I had a miss piggy doll (from Muppet babies…which my mother denies she ever let me have :o)…i cant say it had any effect on me (which is what some parents fear???)

Im just interested in hearing what yall have to say about this…

Re: Pig toys

Two words:

Peppa pig.

My youngest daughter loves watching this cartoon. I’ve never said to her that she can’t watch it, but she understands (i hope) that we as Muslims do not consume pork.

Oh, and she has a piggy bank too. It’s not a big deal.

A long time ago, when i was a teen, i was at a friends house, and her old aunt was there. Her younger siblings were watching a programme where there were children at a farm. Pigs were being shown, all of a sudden, the lady has a screaming outburst, yelling, “get those khanzeer of the tv…”…:hmmm:

Re: Pig toys

hmmm we HAVE to bring religion in this cus pigs are haraam and its a dirty animal.. we all know it eats its own poop and its the only animal that is full of FAT...no wonder americans are fat, they eat alot of pork. so if its hated to such an extent its only fair tht u shudnt b havin pig toys in the house. its not abt these toys havin affect on kids, its more abt the rite and wrong. just my opinion.

Re: Pig toys

Actually pork is considered to be the “other” white meat. Not all cuts of it are fat…just as not all cuts of goat are lean. And it’s not like desis aren’t fat…look at the tidds :nahi:.

However, our bigger concern is not to eat the pig period.

Now watching pig shows won’t make my kid say awwww mom, that pig is so cute that I want to eat it, hope not. Some pig stuffed animals are really cute. But my take on this issue is simple… whatever I don’t want my kids getting attached to I don’t make a big deal of. Like I don’t go running around hyperventilating that they shouldn’t have cuddled that pig muppet in the toy store and that they’d get gunnah for that. We have a cute money bank for the kids shaped like a bucket. The kids have never asked specifically for a pig related product.

I think we shouldn’t overreact and make it an ego issue. If we train our children right and instill values in them, we wouldn’t need to work hard later on.

Re: Pig toys

I was thinking the "piggy bank" the other day and whether I should get one for my son. I haven't even seen them in the stores ... it's a very British thing.

Re: Pig toys

Target had this really cute piggy bank…almost wanted to get one :rotato:

Re: Pig toys

I may not make a huge fuss about it but I will not buy the pig toys for my children.. I just dun like it. All they will play with is nemo because mommy likes it!

:k: I agree

Well, yes pigs are dirty, they may eat poop. But so do most animals! Heck they're animals!!! Bacon is full of fat but much of the cuts of meat from a pig are lower in fat than beef. Americans do indeed eat pork but not very often. I'd bet that fat consumption in Pak is on a par with - or higher than - US because its quite common to use ghee and use it in quantity in desi cooking. You can't get more unhealthy than that!

As far as pig toys, I doubt that they'd make you want to eat pigs! Probably the opposite! Pig meat is forbidden to eat. But isnt a good Muslim supposed to respect all of God's creatures? Having hatred for an animal just because you are forbidden to eat it doesnt make sense to me! Plus, what childhood would be totally complete without winnie the pooh and Piglet? Or charlotte's web? Or Miss Piggy?

Re: Pig toys

WTH, Bear meat is also haram in islam, but we all love to buy teddy bears for our kids and have them watch whinnie the pooh and Yogi bear cartoons.

Re: Pig toys

^ exactly, but Piglet is all controversial. My mumani won't even say the word -- she only spells it.

Mall -- I'm afraid much of what you wrote is incorrect. What bothers me about that is that it is the same stuff spouted throughout Muslim societies. I just don't understand why we have to make up lies in order to justify God's laws. We've been told not to eat pig, so have faith and obey. Why do we feel the need to make up lies about God's creations in order to justify our obedience?

Re: Pig toys

^Bear meat is haram even if we hunt them?

I agree with Niksik, its nothing to be made a big deal about. I wouldn't want to buy a piggy bank for my kids but if they're adamant about it, why make such a fuss about it- even though i would probably try to redirect them to something else. Teach them right, focus on the bigger picture and iA they'll become good Muslims

No, if you hunt them then you are only allowed to eat Bear Tikka. Making Nihari or Haleem out of Bear meat is not allowed in Hanafi, Shafa'i and Googli school of thoughts.

Re: Pig toys

^I see, thanks!

Re: Pig toys

:hehe: Safoora I was joking, bear is not halal.

Re: Pig toys

what? NOOOOOO

I already radioed your fatwa to my friend in Swiss Alps who is now making it tikka style. Why o why?!

Re: Pig toys

When in Alps, bear is not halal but beer is.

Re: Pig toys

Bear is not halal?

Ok, I know its too late for you to know that.

So how was the grizzly steak?
