the rapist is responsible for his crime all the same whether he rapes a nudist or a niqaabi but the nudist is also to blame for encouraging the rapist.
There is difference between a senior Muslim cleric and a person in court on charges of rape. The person in court will do whatever to distort the image of victim, so it is predictable for them use the uncoverd part or flirting as excuse.
The statement by the cleric is surprising, I do not know what is he trying to prove. Either he is stupid or if he trying to tell Muslim women to wear niqab than a very cheap one.

I mean I work with auto workers as an Engineer…and you wont beleive the kind of slurs and words they use for women all the time…

to echo what Man with a Plan already said, I really do expect my religious leaders/imams etc to be a litle more civilized than some factory workers.
Yes it got blown out of proportion, but had he used a more sensible approach there would be less ammo available to people.

the screamfest that passes on as khutbas in some masjids is high on rhetoric and emotion and drama than on communication, teaching and conencting with the attendees. This case may have been one...dude went overly dramatic to prove his point and well..the rest is what we know it is now.

He gave the sermon in arabic, he didnt realize that someone would actually get ticked off probably a woman in the mosque translate it and send it to the newspaper.

He was trying to defend the four pakistani brothers who are heavily sentenced for gang raping 2 girls.
I suppose his intention was to look good in the community and gain their appreciation.
He didnt realize that the community also consists of women who despite being muslims donot appreciate being referred to as Meat.
The next day he is faking that he is ill and gives an interview from his bed all ragged up in blankets and scarves.
Aren't we muslims all puffed up about how we're part of the true religion and on the right path, etc? So this stuff should especially not be tolerated from a muslim. We should be held to higher standards, if we expect others to think we're at a higher standard, and if we believe we're at a higher standard.

But this maulvi apparently really does see women as either covered or uncovered meat. He should have used "dogs" instead of "cats".

He's here on a working visa, most probably someone's relative been shipped to Australia and now refuses to leave cause he is the Muslim Cleric.

Discussing an event is not called backbiting.
LOL you can discuss the event whenever or whereever you want. If it involves your Muslim brother and sister, and you are talking trash about them, then YES It comes under backbiting. I don't need to go to dictionary.com for something like that. Akhee why don't you go to some shaykh? that way u can have better understanding towards backbiting your own Muslim brother!
