Bush.

The two-metre (six-foot) high statue, unveiled on Thursday in former dictator Saddam Hussein’s home town of Tikrit, depicts a bronze-coloured shoe, filled with a plastic shrub. “Muntazer: fasting until the sword breaks its fast with blood; silent until our mouths speak the truth,” reads an inscription, in honour of journalist Muntazer al-Zaidi, who hurled his shoes at Bush and called him a “dog” at a news conference during the former president’s final visit to Iraq.

Zaidi has been held in jail in Baghdad since the incident, facing charges of assaulting a visiting head of state.

Fatin Abdul Qader, head of an orphanage and children’s organisation in the town, said the one-and-a-half-tonne monument by artist Laith al-Amiri was titled “statue of glory and generosity”.

“This statue is the least expression of our appreciation for Muntazer al-Zaidi, because Iraqi hearts were comforted by his throw,” she said.

Re: Pic of the SHOE monument

But the shoe thrower himself is asking political asylum in a western country....and not in any 'arab' country.

Re: Pic of the SHOE monument

What! A monument of shoe throwing!

the world is sure becoming dumber and dumber.

it was a hilarious incident to most ppl around the world, but for Iraqi people I guess it is much more personal.

:k:

Re: Pic of the SHOE monument

I don't think it's about getting dumb and dumber.

It REALLY holds Value for these people of Iraq - because when Bush administration started out the Iraq war - remember the SHOCK - AND -AWE - scene - it was as if we were watching a movie.
In reality the bombs were falling on real people. There was no fake drama. Bush said people of Iraq were showering FLOWERS at him for giving them the freedom!

Well The SHOE represents the truth of HOW THE IRAQI'S feel about Bush. There is a big distinction between showering flowers and shoes! Those shoes represent how Iraqi remembers Bush.

It's very sad - that Bush sent out troops but he ended his presidency in ill manners. He did not bring his troops back. He did not accomplish anything. He just destroyed everything. He was the devil - and yes the SHOE treatment is definitely monumental!

ofcourse....with a president like bush...americans were leading the world in being dumb and stupid. kuch to aaser hoga baQi duniya pe.

and don't forget his mooti-aQal wala motto...you are either with us or the americans. i guess no one wanted to be in american's good book so they sided with bush the stupid. you can't blame them for loving their own lives more than others.

**Yes!or mera vote zaiya giya tha:(
P.S. Main ny os waqat gorey Americans ko buhat samjhaiya ky socho ain elections ky waqat hi usama ka biyan ana tha yeh sab dobara muntakhib honey ki sazishain hain. Ye sab mily hoy hain. Hamarey leadres ko apny aap ko hero banany ko koi dushman chahiy or woh bas creat kerty hain.magar yaqen manon meri bat ko koi na samjha (yes I wanna say ******)lakh kaha vote mat do Bush ko is baar magar meri traf umeed bhri nazron se dykh ker pochty hain, “Do you know where is Usama Bin Ladin in Pakistan?”:mad3::eek::omg: jaisy main bataon gi or woh inaam lai lain gy:DMain ny socha:hinna: tum ko bhi Pakistani awam ki trha aqal anii mushkil hy zalimon:D

NJmasti and Saieen

I don't consider a person who threw his shoe at someone out of anger my hero, I'd tell stories of Muhammad bin Qasim, Tipu Sultan and salahuddin to my kids rather telling them about a shoe thrower.

You tell them about the true heroes, you'll get true heroes.....

You glorify shoe throwers, you'll get shoe throwers....

Remember the famous saying "children are like sponges".

n i'll definitely won't be telling stories of how hareem01 went to iraQ to encounter the illegal and unjust war of the mighty america and how she saved thousands from get slaughterer at the hands of the americans...

simply bcos you did nothing to help them in anyways. he threw that shows for iraqis and not for lousy muslims like you and me. yeah his shoe does not have the seal of approval of moderate and liberal muslims [not even of extremists] but he and his actions represents iraq and its people....not stuck up americanized muslims and their make-belief stories which are no better than disney fanticies. keep on telling them to your future generations...i'm sure they'll do a grand job in judging others for their actions without getting themselves involved.

you got my point miss-high-and-mighty?

go tell these stories to iraqi orphans who lost their families at the hands of american terrorism. lets see how good of a job you'll do.

Stories about Muhammad bin Qasim, Tipu and Salahuddin, are just that: stories which are sugar-coated for bed-time.

These military leaders led armies that pillaged, plundered, murdered and raped. Others in this list from the Muslim world include Timur Lenk and Nader Shah.

All of these leaders not only killed non-Muslims, but other Muslims as well.

Nothing heroic about that. True heroes do not have worldly power, rather they fight against wordly power.

You're being too emotional....if you wanna praise the act of shoe throwing carry on.

So you're saying Salahuddin and Bin Qasim's armies pillaged, plundered, murdered and raped?

Re: Pic of the SHOE monument

And how the heck someone's going to fight a war by throwing out his shoe at someone?

How else are you going take over Egypt from the Fatimids and parts of the subcontinent?

i'm more logical then emotional. if you want to praise mythical heroes then go ahead. muslims have done nothing for iraq and its ppl so they have no right to talk about anything and everything iraqis do to show their hatred for the americans.

you are trying to be a khoon laga ke shaheedon mein shamil honay wali muslim.

tipu sultan....funny...guy killed thousands and thousands of innocent ppl to satisfy his ego and blood thurst and you think of him as a hero...and i thought you believe in tolerable and peaceful islam.

By throwing your shoe…:halo:

I nowhere read that there was so much oppression in Salahuddin and other mentioned muslim leaders era.

No he didn't.

Btw what have you done for your hero who's in jail at the moment?
