I dont travel with them purely because i just hate the fact their food isnt edible and all they do is pile u with chai coffee pepsi and the flights jhst always seem overcrowded.! ive never had a problem with the service like attendants r always polite etc i prefer emirates.
PIA works i spposeif you have small kids its a direct flight mostly. Although once we travelled nothing was mentioned we stopped in frankfurt and it was a scheduled stop over apaprantly to pick passengers we couldnt leave the plane and we was there for ages.!
I have never had a bad experience with PIA personally. Not saying that there are no problems. Just want to say that pointing all fingers to PIA is a little bit unfair.
A lot can be mentioned about the behavior of the travellers too:
Being rude and arrogant towards PIA staff.
Always complaining about everything, even if there is nothing to complain about. Apperently it is not cool if you don’t complain.
Being rude to other travellers (think of pushing people aside because obviously you are more important and are in more rush than others)
Having no patience.
Seen it happening a lot of times now, so maybe people should do something about their own attitude and mentality too.
Some passengers behave better in foreign airline. They are intimidated by the plane crew, follow orders and suggestions saying yes ma’m, yes sir!, eat a lousy tasteless meal with happiness, saying thank you, please… etc.
But as soon as they get to desi airport, they break the line, run around to get to counter faster, start yelling,…
On desi airline, these few people feel they own the plane and PIA, and its crew and disrespect their fellow desi (Hoonh, I am better than this idiot desi)…and rest goes along this line of thinking.
the airline will NOT cease to operate…this is certain, iA because it’s owned by the Govt and they won’t let it go down so easily or quickly. rest assured.
PIA is known to have some problems recently. planes have had quite a few incidences of mechanical in nature but so far have avoided any major accidents. delayed flight departures are more frequent than before.
I think in your case, a direct flight is the best way to go, since as you said you have two kids, and dealing with both of them in transit and changing planes will be a hassle. Safety wise, you are fine with PIA, and if that’s the only direct option, then you should take it.
I don’t know about going bankrupt or what ever, but just last month, we were expecting guests from Pakistan (who were traveling via PIA). Their flight was canceled due to lack of fuel.
A bunch of passengers put up a fight and they were able to get on a different flight… Which came 6 hours later.
I’m sure it’s not just for PIA, considering the situation in Pak.
hi nadz123. i am in the same dilemma as you. im planning to visit PK end of march and its between PIA and Emirates. I am worried about safety and lately PIA has had alot of trouble with its planes, some have been banned. as much I love PIA and i am very sentimental about this airline i tempted to go with emirates. i know pakistan has some of the best pilots in the world but it needs continued investment by the govt. if it is to succeed and compete. sadly PIA has no competitors on a direct flight basis until it does its going down hill. all i can suggest if the kids are young take the direct flight. if your kids are 5 and above they will enjoy other airlines and you can choose airlines with only short stopovers. ..hope this helps.
No, its not safe. Especially if you decide to travel inside pakistan using PIA. My elder brother came to Pakistan with his wife from US this december. He arrived at Karachi and he had to travel to Bahawalpur. So, to make things easier, he booked a PIA flight from Karachi to Bahawalpur. He was carrying valuables with him that were worth atleast two thousand US dollars. When he arrived at Bahawalpur, his bags were missing. The PIA staff made excuses about why they could’nt bring his bags with him and somehow they had to send them to Lahore instead of Bahwalpur and they will be delivered to him in Bahwalpur via road.
After 3 days, when he recieved his bags, they looked intact. But when he opened them, his valuables were gone while all other unvaluables items such as clothes were present. He tried to file a complaint to the PIA, but none of them seriously listened. He went to facebook page of PIA and learned that a lot of people were robbed of their valuables like this. So, I would recommend you to research about such issues before you decide to travel with PIA. Good luck.
