As for clapping, I think they are all just glad they landed safely in Islamabad and that whoever was filming was able to do so without any delays or mishaps

The airport has only one major runway. I remember in 2007 we arrived in Islamabad 20 minutes before schedule but the pilot was refused landing as another plane was about to take off and he had to fly the aircraft over Islamabad for a good 8-10 minutes before being granted permission to land

And mind you the airport is actually located in Rawal Pindi and has been renamed Benazir Bhutto International Airport. The capital's new airport is being built near Fateh Jang and should be ready in 2010. I hope it has more than one runway and is not named Asif Ali Zardari International Airport! :)

The power of those jet engines is amazing. It amazes me how only 2 engines can lift an 600,000 pound (That is roughly 273,000 Kg or 273 Tons) Boeing 777 plane and propel it 600 miles an hour. It blows me away!

Its not only in PIA.. Its like a respect for the huge duty given to the captain(s). Its also being done here in Germany. Whatever airline you take Germans clap when the Captain lands safely.
