PIA Flight Service

How is the in-flight service of PIA going from New York to Karachi (or anywhere in Pak)- what do they have in terms of food and entertainment coz its a longggg flight

Re: PIA Flight Service

its a pretty good flight.. i like PIA's on its international routes... food is never too good so i always took something for myself... entertianment wise.. they show sitcoms, desi dramas and paki movies :D hehe....

pretty good flight

Re: PIA Flight Service

If you want a teenagers point of view of this scenerio, i'd like to get the honor of getting PIA bankrupt, the food's horrible, there are ALWAYS damn fat aunties taking up your space and lil kids crying on the top of their lungs, girls giggling as if it's the end of the world, andd guys staring at you as if your some kind of weird entertainment.

but on the plus side, they take dead bodies to anywhere around PAK without cost:)

Re: PIA Flight Service

  • There’s no entertainment
  • Food sucks
  • Annoying aunties and children racket will keep u up
  • “le mar” kinda service

All that IF you can get on the plane :bailan:
Its always over-booked to 140% during peak season.

PS: I’ve sworn to myself to not take it ever (maybe internal Pakistan is ok)

PS2: I forgot the unkil with the Red Label bottle all the way at the back of the plane :hehe:

Re: PIA Flight Service

Male stewards are ok, the women think they are some supermodel and usually stuck up. The food in comaprison to most carriers is ok/good. What annoys me is the wankers who fly on these planes. They cant look after their kids, they run riot annoying everyone. Parents just let them get on with it. Entertainment could be better but I never really use it anyway - rather go sleep.

Re: PIA Flight Service

Another annoying thins is passengers bring 40kg bags of rice with them as personal carrigae. You always get one family who thinks they can turn up 40 mins late and all is well, doesnt matter if a plane load of passengers have to wait for them.

Re: PIA Flight Service

Im taking my iPod Video and PSP with 12 games so hopefully, I wont be bored!

As Im going by myself, I fear one of those aunties or kids will steal some of my stuff! I dont wanna carry all my stuff to the bathroom!

Re: PIA Flight Service

watch out if you have your bag in the overhead bin with any electronics or fragile items. morons show up with 2 carryons each and insist on squeezing the overstuffed pullman into the ooverhead bin just like they insist on squeezing their XXL beely into a medium shirt,or size 40 waist into size 34 dockers (why do desis like dockers so much)

its not just PIA though u will find the same brand desis on any flight to pakistan. One uncle once was so fascinated with my brothers hiking backpack (which was very kewl and interesting i must say) that he kept opening the overhead bin and pulling tha bag forward, tirning it around and looking at it and its pockets and zippers. this dude's kids were in the seats ahead of us. My bro who is a proper english gentlemen type kept asking the uncle politely that it was his bag and not to mess with it. Finally he lost it and said, what the hell dont youunderstand its my &^*^ bag, keep your %$^% hands off it, you %&&^. Uncle finally got the point.

Re: PIA Flight Service

Horrible. I experienced it once. never gonna do it again.

Re: PIA Flight Service

I'm flying with them from UK to Islambad next month. I hope they have removed some of the rubbish programmes/movies on the entertainment consoles.

CutiePie, is your flight a non-stop flight?

Re: PIA Flight Service

Las timr I was on one some freshie decided I need to re-learn my english. Clearly stated L or M was the window seat. He came up and started arguing with me for a good 20 minutes that j/k was the window seat and belonged to him. Did my head in. After I had enough put him in his place by not being so polite he asks me how do you turn on the telly I've not used one before. The nerve to ask that after telling me my proper english is useless and I should learn to read. Also before he sat down their was a cushion someone left. He had go over that aswell, told me to move my rubbish, I was like WTF maybe you should get out the jungle more often and stuck it on the seat seperating us. When the other passenger came I picked it up and let him stick it behind his neck. Did the same with mine and the freshie now wanted one himself. Off he went to pester the stewards.

Also had some dude who for some reason was going through everyones hand luggae. Randomly opening up the pver head bins and pretending he was looking for something. Eventually found what was needed by opening the bin directly above his head. Why do they do stuff like this?

Re: PIA Flight Service

A similar story happened with me when I last travelled 1 1/2 yrs ago. Luckily, the air host sorted it within minutes. The guy opologised to me 4 hours into our journey.

Re: PIA Flight Service

I prefer window seats, but it's a bit of a hassle getting in and out when needing to get to the toilet etc.

I might request the one at very front, where there is extra leg space.

Re: PIA Flight Service

I've had the (mis)fortune of travelling Lufthansa, British Airways and some other european carriers on the transatlantic routes and I can safely say that PIA has superior and certainly far more GENEROUS servings of food for one thing compared with the other airlines I mentioned where they literally starve you with meagre, infrequent portions and some pathetic impersonal in-flight service. The toilets overflow really fast too with everyone having whiskey and seven up, so PIA does have some definite plusses. I guess it's just fashionable to diss it :)

Re: PIA Flight Service

yeah- well they will probably stop to re-fuel:)

Re: PIA Flight Service

The entertainment is good. I've watched Pirates of the Carribean, Mission Impossible 2 and other films. They also show old cricket matches if you like that sort of thing. Food is alright. Normal rice, salan, salad etc but if you want something different ask the air host(ess) for English food. They normally have fish/chicken with potatoes and other vegetables. Also always ask for a blanket and pillow near the beginning of the flight before they run out.

Re: PIA Flight Service

Flights from Toronto to Pakistan are non-stop now, no stop-overs in UK for re-fueling. PIA started non-stop flights from US (NY, Chicago and Houston) to Pak and back, but US objected due to security reasons. So PIA flights to and from US are back to same routine: stopping over in UK for re-fueling. BTW, PIA's new Boeing 777-LR can fly 14 hrs non-stop from Pak to US (that’s why Canadian flights are non-stop), these 777-LRs can even go non-stop from Pak to LA.

Back to the topic, I traveled from Chicago to Karachi in Oct 2005, flight was OK, I was surprised by the nice attitude of stewards. Food was good too, enough in quantity and I didn’t have to worry about muslim meal/halal thing. They were showing reasonably good movies, and some old cricket matches (Pak vs India match on BCCI platinum Jubilee, which Pak won, Butt made 100 in that match). Only thing annoying was the crying kids.

When I was returning back from Khi to NYC in Jan 2006 (after 3 months), I was disappointed to see the same movie package being showed on the flight.

Re: PIA Flight Service

 thats far too long to be sat in plane.

Re: PIA Flight Service

Looks like you haven’t taken any flight thru Pacific. I flew from LA to Pak thru Cathay Pacific; it was more than 13 hrs flight from LA to Hong Kong, then another 7 hrs from HK to Khi. I was dead tired when I arrived in Pak, I never knew it was going be that long, thats the last time I took any flight thru Pacific.

Anyway, Boeing’s 777-240 LR made a world record by flying more than 22 hrs non-stop:
http://www.boeing.com/commercial/777family/200LR/index.html
*World Record Flight *
Boeing established a new world record for distance traveled nonstop by a commercial airplane when a Boeing 777-200LR Worldliner landed at London Heathrow Airport Nov. 10, 2005. The 777-200LR flew 11,664 nautical miles (21,601 km) during its 22-hour 42-minute flight that left Hong Kong flying eastbound the evening of Nov. 9. The distance set by the 777-200LR is farther than any previous commercial jetliner has flown and exceeds a distance of more than halfway around the world.

PIA has 2 of them:

Re: PIA Flight Service

No, I don’ think I could do it either. I’m surprised that it took 7hours from Hong Kong to Karachi?
