PIA air hostesses prohibited from covering their heads

As you might recall, PIA airhostesses in their previous uniform had that dupatta thingie sewn to their uniforms and they had to put it on their head…atleast naam ka sar dhaka hota tha…

New rules by the govt have told PIA airhostesses to not cover their heads…their new uniforms are sewn in a way that the dupatta is stitched to the shoulder so they cannot cover their heads anymore…

i find this to be quite pathetic honestly :S what do u guys think?

irem, what is the source of your information? (if you don’t mind me asking)

I came across some
interesting pictures. PIA airhostesses through the years in different uniforms.
I know it’s off-topic, hope u don’t mind me posting them here :-/

*In this photo obtained from Indian Aviation magazine, PIA’s famous air hostess Momi Durrani is seen in 1950s uniform. This uniform was designed by Chausee Fortaignelle of Pan Am. This design was used from 1955 to 1960. In this design a white shalwar and dupatta were set off by a green shirt with white cuffs and collar. Shoes and bags were black. The most interesting item of this uniform was a jaunty green cap for the hostesses *

This very rare and old 1960s' PIA postcard from Rolf's excellent collection of airline postcards shows PIA Air-Hostess in early 1960s uniform. This uniform was used from **1960 to 1966* and it was designed by a Pakistani dilettante Mr. Feroze Cowasji*

:)

irem not only quite pathetic but shameful

shameful indeed, dupatta has been part of our culture and the element of haya in our sisters, mothers, and daughters.

may be they think that dupatta wearing airhostess looks odd but how would dupatta less will look like.
i think this is a recent step towards modernization (read deislamization) as when i last travel via PIA they were wearing same old dresses but i also do recon that on my last visit to airport to pick up somebody, saw a lot of airhostesses coming out of domestic arrivals in some white colour dress without dupatta and short hair

Sad indeed

pretty stupid indeed. i think it shud be an option for ladies to cover their heads or not.

I really like this look. It's so classy. If anything, they should bring this back.

Actually, it should be a choice as with the Gulf Air hostesses. Whether the hair is long or short is not the issue. There should be a choice of wearing a uniform with a dupatta and wearing a uniform without a dupatta.

wow very decent

OMG! so what do the ladies who wear hijaab and want to become air hostesses do? compromise? whatever happend to the islamic state of pakistan??? i think if anything then ladies should have a choice if not then they should still cover their heads.

it really is a shame.
we're pakistanis. we cover our heads. so live with it. don' try and change us. we don't want to be modern. i like the classy look too! :)

What people think modernism is jahiliah!

We are an ideaological Islamic state. So not only dupatta, they should all wear hijaab!

PIA should also have a place for praying in its air planes just like Saudi Airlines.

It is a shame to call ourselves Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

brothers why are you posting pictures of namehrum women.. that's haraam.. and you shouldn't be flying on these airplanes.. the demonic contraptions of western kuffar.. please stick to your camels.

:hehe:

The 1960's outfits the most modern looking of the lot which is funny in itself.

It's all a lot of fuss over nothing as usual. Still I think govt shouldn't really be instructing airlines as to wearing dupattas or not. Isn't PIA a private company?

Yes it is, but the government is still the biggest stakeholder.

I don't care as long as they make the pilots fly in shalwar qameez with elastic instead of naarraa.

At least it shows that there is nothing in Pakistani Policy or Policy makers, which would make them consistent (so many examples across the board). Dupatta today no dupatta tomorrow, Azan on PTV today and no Azan tomorrow, Presidency today Prime minister ship tomorrow, COAS today and CE tomorrow. So there is nothing wrong in what PIA is doing, they are just being consistent with their inconsistency.

:)

Why cant they have some cool stylish uniform, really the salwaar kameez they wear today is so paindu like. Red isnt looking good on them either as their complexion is dark, red mostly suits blonds with fair skin.

I would have gone for some cool, light colour combination, like sky blue, creme, baby pink, pistha green.

The first pic in the hijab looks great, so does the uniform in the 60s and 70s, very classical.
