There is one more reason that I think others have ignored i.e. if you have urge to pee (bowl if full) you get an erection. This explains the wake-up-erection or erections during night.

hrmm....I'm not so sure about this one. Usually, when you have an erection, you lose your urge to pee, and If you have the urge to pee, I don't think it's a direct cause for an erection.
All I need is a delicate fist of desire n passion ;) and being a Pathan I can create history or even I can hold a record in Guinness Book of World Records for or durations of erections.

Seriously, there is no average or specific number - medical journal of England. But one thing is important though…the person's sexual age. At peak (between the ages of 14 to 28) erections occurs frequently based on the number of reasons. Most of them (reasons) are already stated above. Having said that does not necessarily means a particular individual will have certain numbers of erections in a day. Also number of erection in a day from the same sexual age group will not be the same. Some men suffer from erectile deficiency and some men faces excessive secretion of hormonal glands another cause of erection. So in reality if you want more arousal from your partner it all depends on his sexual age and health.

hmm...abt the whole pee thing, all i know is that when ejaculation occurs there is a...i can't think of a word for it, but it closes the area from which urine comes, therefore you cannot ejaculate and urniate at the same time...
714, Men's prostate makes some of the milky fluid (semen) that carries sperm. The gland is the size of a walnut and is found just below the bladder, which stores urine. The prostate wraps around a tube (the urethra) that carries urine from the bladder out through the tip of the penis. During a man's orgasm (sexual climax), muscles squeeze the prostate's fluid into the urethra. Urine does come out during this process but the amout is just the residue in urethra. Sperm, which are made in the testicles, also go into the urethra during orgasm. But sperm secretion supresses the flow from bladder. The milky fluid carries the sperm through the penis during orgasm.
