Phulki / Pakorey

What’s the difference between the two?

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

I believe phulkian are more denser than pakoray. The former soak in yogurt (think dahi baray).

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

Phulki is romance and pakora is reality. What SRK and Anushka eat in "Rab ne bana di jodi" is phulki and what Modi ji wants youth to sell is pakora. Big difference.

I think phulki is that small thing you put in chaat & pakora is bigger than phulki but with few more ingredients in it.

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

Phukli is very soft and without any fillings (no onion, green chillies, spinach, potatoes - all these come in pakora). Phulki is customary alongwith Pakora in Karachi only I think! Besan kari has phulkies only!

Here is a dhahi phulki recipe from Delhi!

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

In my region, phulki means gol-gappe which is also known as pani puri, pani batashe and puchka.
I think the term phulki is made from phoolna/foolna ie swelling. As you see phulka means soft chapati/roti which, we see swells when it is made. So, the term phulki is best suited on gol-gappe :k:

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

Same is true for phulki - when you do a good batting of your basin and fry it in very hot oil - phukli also swells a lot and become very soft!

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

What do you mean? Is pakora called phulki in Karachi?

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

The first time I came across the word 'pakorey' was on GS. I'd never heard of it before. Initially I thought it was the size which was the difference and later I thought that different regions called it by different names.

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

Are you referring to boondi?

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

: I’d heard gol gappay and pani puri were the same thing but phulki :konfused:

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

Yupe

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

No pakora is called pakora there. Phulki is a separate thing - it is made of only basin and spices and not stuffing.

One thing phulki swells into similar shapes while pakora gets its shape from the stuffing inside - piyaz, palak, mirch, aalo etc

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

What would Besan, onion, coriander and spices be called? Phulki or pakora?
(no potato, palak etc)

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

pakora

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

Do you know "bhajiya"?

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

A different name of Pakora - as it is called mainly in Gujarat! I guess!

Here in Supermarkets you can get a "vegetable bhaji"!

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

Thank you :)

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

hahaha yes! see how thing is same but name differs :D
some people call vegetables bhaji and tarkari. Is it that bhaji or something else?

Re: Phulki / Pakorey

Tarkari is the name given to aaloo as cooked for halwa puri! Although that is a contemporary dish!
