Photo of My Sufi Master

Brother Strongman–thanks for the true words.

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

Unfortunately people are quick to judge–even the awliya do not escape their tongues! But I love my Shaykh and am devoted to him and insha Allah it is my honour to be his slave for only by loving the loved ones of Allah and the heirs to the Prophetic knowledge can one reach Huzoor Paak and only via Huzoor Paak can one reach Allah.

These Wahabi minded ppl are unfortunately lost. They think everything is shirk without knowing the first thing about shirk.

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/rolleyes.gif

These people are today’s equivalents of Rumi and Hafiz etc. and carry the Divine Love and Ma’rifah in their hearts. Because of such people countless ppl are turning to Islam! Yet all so called Muslims can do is criticise!

Madinay Walay Aaqa Ka Aik Syaakaar Kutta

Asif first you say "Unfortunately people are quick to judge" and then at the end of you comment you said "Yet all so called Muslims can do is criticize". I guess you are one of them. Answer one thing, why do you need some one in the middle to get to allah. In Islam you pray straight to Allah and ask Allah what ever you want on one on one basis. I cannot understand why do you need Peers and walis to help your self to get close to Allah.

does he know JUDO??? that will make him a complete master-blaster!

Hey one more thing
These things are hard to explain
For some it seems strange... to swallow
The frontier of our minds
Is the last place we find
But maybe the first place we should go

I can understand the resentment here by many people; I have the same feeling about the whole issue from a religious and a non-religious point of view.

The things Asif has mentioned here is first of all very hard to be grasped by our modern intellect (Aqliyat, from Aqal), nothing to be sorry/proud about it, since this is the pattern based on which our schooling is done. We can never imagine a human being superior to another human being. And this is what we have shown here….

Secondly to admit to your own self that you need guidance or some particular teaching, hence declaring or admitting in someway or another that you are inferior in some aspect or another is very hard. And this my friends, in this modern age is very hard to find….on the other hand we do admit that to learn some thing, we do have to have a teacher, we come up with reasons to justify our need to learn and then the only thing in-between the knowledge (which is there) and us is the teacher. So we develop a relationship with the teacher to have access to the knowledge, so what’s wrong in this? So my point is that if having a teacher to teach us how to learn French is not pathetic then how come having a teacher teaching us how become good humans is pathetic.

Remember, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY, GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL.

ppl some of the comments made here are trully apaulling(spellings). U all shuddnt b ridiculing someone u dont know,,,, how can u brand him a fraudia pir n other silly things u,ve mentioned here.... and how do u guys know if asif is doing a shirk??... hes probably learning about islam from a very learned man,,, thats all ... and theres nothing wrong in that,,, its true theres nothing between Allah and oneself. and asif aint saying his teacher is between him n Allah,,, hes merely trying to give his teacher respect. and remember none of us is here to judge,,, we all shudd b worrying about ourselves, and not passing stupid remarks about others. specially wen u dont know him.

Hey Asif !!
How can a man be the master of another man?

All humans are creations of the sole master, the lord of lords, the ALLAH (SWT).

talking strictly under religion, you are not supposed to shot pictures or get your pictures without a necessary, not for your publicity on the internet

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

Salams to all,

Ok, what I'm about to say is not aimed at anyone in particular. I've read these comments here and frankly, soe of them are pathetic. They're offensive and degrading. I"m not taking any sides here. I agree to some extent with Asif and I also disagree.

Asif, your Lord and your Master is Allah and Allah only. Calling someone else your lord and master IS Shirk. There's no doubt about it.Please don't argue about this because I'm not saying this on my own but have done some research on it. If you want to call him something respectful, call him Shaykh, like you already do. Or call him your teacher. Calling him your master borders on worshipping him. I'm sure if he's a true Shaykh, I hope and pray he is, he wouldn't want you to call him your Master. If you want, ask him.
One more thing, it's a Sunnah to trim the mustache. The reason behind it is that the Prophet (SAW) wanted us Muslims to look different from other religions. Since the Jews also had beards and mustaches, he (SAW) told Muslims to look different by trimming the mustache. Also, this photo really shows that this Shaykh is very well off. Then wouldn't the people here would have doubts about the authenticity of him? If you want, post a much simplar picture of him which hopefully would show his true nature.

The rest of you people, RELAX!! Cut the guy some slack. For all we know, he just might be saying all of this out of respect. Of course your connection is only with Allah. And you follow Allah's commands. But sometimes it happens that some of us are put in situations where we need guidance from a learned person in the light of Islam. That's why we go to them.

Yeah there are some people who're just plain fakes. But we don't know if this person is one of them or not until we atleast meet him or hear him speak. And if we know that there are some people who're fakes, then let's try to eliminate this fitna instead of posting messages on this board accusing each other of being illiterate. There won't be any solution to this problem if we don't come together as Muslims. Let's not fight amongst ourselves. I can almost guarantee that some of the comments that were made here, if they were made by a non-Muslim , we'd be quick to jump on them and get mad and stuff. Then why is it that we do the same thing and justify this act to be right? People, try not to be at each others throats. If you have objections to this then let the person who posted this know what you think, and not start accusing him/her. Also if the person who posted this stuff, if you don't like what people have to say about it, then remove it. I don't know why the moderator is letting this go on. When people start cursing at each other, then only you start warning them or close the thread. Act faster please.

I hope I haven't offended any one here. It wasn't my intention to do so. I just wanted people to see the right way to do this.

S-H

Ali(as) once said

“Men Alamani harfan kuntu lahu abdan”

“I am the slave of the person who just thought me one letter”

p.s I am not even a muslim....

Remember, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY, GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL.

minneme,

Teachers are not walis and peers, you are acting naive if you mix the 2.

what is naqshbandi? scholors should not be disrespected but appreciated.

Also, the relationship of a pir/mureed is the same as that of a teacher/student (If followed in a sense that is right, granting humans the rutba of God is not right).

This is kindda sticky, but Simply Human has put it all too well. We do NOT know if he is a fake just as we do NOT know if he is for real. Buone thing we do know, nobody should claim to be our LORD/ MASTER, cuz only Allah is that to us Mulims. One can be called a teacher, Maulaana etc. But that's where it should stop.

p.s. People should refrain from making crude comments about sum1's spiritual faith. He is calling him his Sufi Master (althogh, I would like to think his teacher.

I'm still trying to figure out the concept and need of a prophet-like-master. So far what I have read is very interesting. Sufism seems more like "spiritual healing" process based on the concepts of islam.
Here is a simple yet complicated question…
What is 'spiritual healing' and why do humans need it? It is not only restricted to muslims but I have seen non muslims practicing the arts of Tai chi (sp?) and other meditation techniques to calm the unknown. Maybe humans are trying to find themselves…the complexity of our soul is beyond comprehension therefore there is a need to grab the possible/suitable answer…whether it comes in the shape of religion, exercise or a master.

A cousin of mine is following a pir shaib for last few years..he is devoted to an extent that he even got married to a girl suggested by the Pir. Now his younger brother is also following Pir ji like there-might-be-a-god-but-pirji-is-more-visible and approachable. This is where I believe a line should be drawn. There is a difference between respect and complete devotion or getting brain washed.

ciao
BoSS
Mod, my humble suggestion..please move this thread to TCR...Like Xtreme would say this thread would be viewed better in the dim light of TCR :)

There is a difference between respect and complete devotion or getting brain washed.

Depends on the point-of-view. Something which seems like 'brain wash' to you may look like 'common sense' to another. Anyway, from what I understand, a 'Shaikh' is like a teacher who guides through spiritual development and brings a person closer to Allah. The 'Shaikh' himself (is there a herself too?) must be a complete follower of shariat (islamic teachings) himself, in order to do so.

Second, some of the comments here were in very bad taste. I guess, next time if someone posts a piture of his Biology teacher and another responds "He looks like an idiot", no one will appreciate it. I wonder how ppl can become so cynical and insensitive to other person's feelings and proudly call it 'flaming'. Its sick behavior. Thats all. If you don't know about something, better keep quiet or ask in a polite, respectful manner. You don't have to spit out your lack of manners in a public forum, in the garb of religious correctness.

Something which seems like 'brain wash' to you may look like 'common sense' to another

Good point Peacemaker and this is exactly what most of the people are trying to find out (in their own way)...how can they relate to asif's common sense or point of views. When prophet started preaching islam ...most of the people found it non sense as well and he faced similar reaction but it is not true today. Maybe Asif has a point and I am open to where he is coming from...but not convinced yet!

yaar asif don't be affected negatively in the sense that your thing (sect?) is being put down, which is oh so sad cuz when it comes to things like these here on gupshup .. it's to be expected .
so sad.

when it comes to things like these .. majority-sp? of the peeps here won't be happy with it no matter wat that they'd bite your head off over it. and not just in the discussion type of manner.

first of all let me clarify that to call someone other than Allah “sayyedi” (my sayyid-i.e. my master) as respect is totally allowed and proven from the qur’an and sunnah. read any book on islam written by a traditional scholar and you will find the phrase “sayyedina so-and-so” . Does this mean that we are saying such a person is taking the place of Allah? NO! Of course not!

So all this talk of “shirk” amuses me because most people use this word indiscriminately without knowing its shar’iah meaning! It is one of the sad facts of the Muslim world today..

As for the necessity of a spiritual guide in Islam to lead you to the Divine Presence and to purify your heart of all negativities and to make it easier to follow the Prophetic Sunnah this too is evidential from the Qur’an and Sunnah. It is as my friends say a non sequitur! You dont deny the need to see a worldly doctor when your body is sick [and isn’t that shirk then o deniers of the awliya? why do you go to a doctor for when you are sick–why not ask Allah directly to cure you?!] so why can you deny the necessity of someone to purify your heart when it becomes sick and most human beings have diseased hearts myself included. The whole Islamic science called tassawuf [sufism] deals with how to purify the heart of all the negative traits by following the Qur’an and Sunnah and the teachings of the great sufis who have come before. Because when the heart is purified, the Human Being can then know Allah and become a Perfected Human–the true representative of the Creator and His Viceregent on Earth. The true Sufi shaykh is a person who has reached Allah and has been authorised to take others there too by following the true teachings of Huzoor Paak sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam and by that I mean both the inner and outer practises and teachings. Unlike your typical Deobandi mullah, for example, who might follow the sunnah on the outside but his actions make a mockery of his prayers etc. these great men-who are few and far between–have purified their inner selves and controlled their desires so that they are pure and do only goodness, even if bad is done to them. They radiate love to all who come to them and in this manner reflect true Islam. That is the true purpose of religion and of Islam.

These people, the Sufis, are the ones who brought most of the Subcontinent’s Muslims to Islam and to this day they continue quietly to work for Islam by example when the fanatical extremists and neo-kharijites around the world go and continue giving islam a bad name and putting people off it instead of making people come to Islam.

So I thank my Absolute Lord Allah who is the Creator of Everything that he has guided me to such a spiritual master, my beloved Shaykh, my Pir o Murshid who can guide me to His Presence insha Allah.

Boss, for people like you who are interested in learning about the whole phenomenon of Islamic spirituality [sufism]

I can recommend the following books (other than the Qur’an which if you read it with a true Master and scholar is full of spiritual guidance for the seeker):

For starters

(translator: Muhtar Holland)

For a book about my beloved Shaykh and his particular tariqat [path, sufi brotherhood]-the Naqshbandiyya–and for a case study of my Grandshaykh Hazrat Amir e Millat Qibla e Alam Pir Sayyid Jama’at Ali Shah (radhi Allah anhu) see Arthur Beuhler’s in-depth study, " Sufi Heirs of The Prophet: The Indian Naqshbandiyya and the rise of the Mediating Sufi Shaykh".

In Urdu see the book Seerat e Amir e Millat.

All the above English books available from amazon.com

Just for those of you who doubt the pedigree of my beloved Shaykh here is what Grandshaykh Hazrat Jama’at Ali Shah quds sirruhu-one of the greatest wali Allah’s of his time-advised to his successors and children on his deathbed, when he was about to meet His Beloved and His Lord:
“The best worship is khidmat e Khalq” (serving the people, looking after their needs).

He never ate a meal without inviting all in his village and all the poor in the area to eat with him. In fact he would order his servants etc to feed the guests the best quality food and himself only ate simple stuff like broth and roti all his life.
Once so many people came that the bar of soap which was always passed around beforehand so that people could wash their hands was completely dissolved (so many people used it!). Seeing this my Grand Shaykh began to cry. One of his closest disciples asked, “Ya Hazrat why are you weeping?” He replied, " I am weeping because I wish that everyday I was able to serve so many people!"

And when people from other places came from afar Hazrat served them himself! Such a mighty spiritual personality and yet so humble!

No wonder people were in love with him both Muslims and non-Muslims. He lived from 1841 to 1951. Once a group of Hindu sadhus came to see him! Seeing him they said, “yeh sach ka guru hai!”

A Wahabi maulvi used to say bad things about the Shaykh behind his back like he does shirk, he is a typical Barelvi, and is a false Pir etc. etc. (the kind of things people accused my beloved Shaykh of in this post already!!). The Shaykh came to here of it and invited the Wahabi for dinner!
At first he didn’t come but after a lot if insistence he came along with another group of people. When he came the Shaykh ordered food to be served to the guests but he said dont serve him! The guest was afraid now that he would be told off and became embarassed. But Grandshaykh invited him and said, "you come and eat with me! the food was bought to the shaykh where he placed it in front of the wahabi and began to place all the choicest pieces of meat in front of the wahabi saying, “maulvi ji aap yeh khain.” My Grandshaykh began to feed the Wahabi himself and seeing this the wahabi burst into tears, fell at the feet of Hazrat Sahib and begged for forgiveness saying I see now that you are a true wali and a saccha Pir.

And my own Shaykh, the descendent of Hazrat Amir e Millat is similar. The times I have seen him eat he has literally eaten maybe a few morsels and he is a big man physically.

And I do a hundred sins but never once has he admonished me or said anything bad to me. He always says, “beta tumharay liye dua kareinge” and showers me with love and affection as well as spiritual things.

BTW those who mocked the turban–you should do tawba cos you are mocking a sunnat of Our Beloved Prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam.
(btw, I put the picture of my Shaykh up myself not cos he told me to. He is humble and would never do that, astaghfirullah. People put pics of those they love. Well I love my Shaykh!

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

I would happily die for him insha Allah.

So, I am glad to have found such a master

As Hazrat Rumi rahmatullah alayhi said:

Alhamdulillah, I have found such a Man of God.

Ummm.... are some of you differing on semantics?

Quran is in Arabic, not in English. Allah has 99 names, and last I checked 'master' was not there.
