Philosophy of Fasting

Let’s start collecting pointers on the philosophy of fasting.

I will start with a simple one:

  • discipline

To feel the plight of the poor.

Re: Philosophy of Fasting

  • and the hungry

Re: Philosophy of Fasting

Fasting awakens the heart, enlightens the spirit and prepares the mind and soul to receive the word of Allah.

Re: Philosophy of Fasting

To develop and strengthen our powers of self-control, so that we can resist wrongful desires and bad habits and therefore guard against evil

Re: Philosophy of Fasting

-self discipline

Re: Philosophy of Fasting

Re: Philosophy of Fasting

Aside from other benefits, chance to lose weight and not spend money on,
-how to lose weight books,
-going to Gym,
-buying weird machines and diet pills, wasting energy 'in air' by Taekwondo etc.?

:)

Re: Philosophy of Fasting

Firstly, i didn't read the entire fist post...sholly!

yes, i do see a difference...as far as i understand it, 'self-discipline' is self induced [without any external forces/reasons] while plain discipline CAN come from external forces/reasons such as routine, laws, protocols etc.

do i make any sense? :(

Re: Philosophy of Fasting

so what lessons do you guys learn at the end and what changes do you make in your life styles :)

im sure the grand iftaris definitlyyyy help us feel the plight of the poor.

Re: Philosophy of Fasting

every one understands at the end of the day that food is a blessing....

And the person realize that having food to eat is one of accomplishments in this world........

Re: Philosophy of Fasting

we dont need to starve every day for 30 days, just to learn this one lesson.

Re: Philosophy of Fasting

don’t forget to give your blunt message to Allah when you meet Him after your death!

Re: Philosophy of Fasting

So you can learn or experience anything in ONE day?

Re: Philosophy of Fasting

Patience and self control.

Re: Philosophy of Fasting

  • The rewards are tremendous. Any obligatory act gets 70 times more reward than what you get in normal days. Non-obligatory (sunnah and nawafil) acts get rewards equal to an obligatory one. Some scholars say that mention of 70 times is just an example. The actual rewards that Allah will give from His own can not be even counted.
