So what are your thoughts on having a pet? Gori that I am, I LOVE my dogs and my kitty-cat, they are members of the family. NOT that they eat at the table with us or anything but they are cherished and loved. They are best friends to my boys, they teach my boys responsibility, empathy and kindness. I DO quite realize that they are animals and I’m quite vigilant with them around the boys, they have all their shots, they are clean (well fairly clean lol! just like my boys).
My hubby feels as I do about them. But he explained to me about Desis and their outlook on “pets”, that its not really a desi concept…dogs are meant to be kept outside for protection, they are dirty, dont touch them etc. And I’ve seen this when we;ve had guests over who were terrified of them and grossed out by them lol!
But there were other visitors who had young children and ended up getting pets because of what they saw in our household…actually a couple of families we know are now pet-lovers themselves.
my dog died recently (killed by a car) i had for 4 years. i miss her, she was my little girl. the very first day she fit in the palm of my hand. she was like part of the family.
Not a pet lover at all. Dogs scare me and cats freak me out. The only cat i love is Hello Kitty. The closest my daughter will eva get to having a pet is a goldfish.
when i was a kid, i always wanted a pet, ie. a cat or a bunny. even into high school years i wanted a pet, but my mean parents never let me have a pet. they promised when i moved out i could do whatever i want.
but when i got married, and got my own house, i just don't feel the same anymore. i don't want cat hair in my food or anywhere near me, and i've been to desi friend's houses who have cats and they literally let their cats eat their food with them (ie. licking the same ice cream cone). i was SOOOO grossed out. err yeah, so no pets.
i have the cutest kitty kat in the world mashallah and i love it to death:D... i do.. she has her own lil personality.. she doesnt like to snuggle.. but always wants attention.. she waits outside ma bedroom door in the morning so that i can walk down with her.. wonder y.. U think shes scared? :)]
I'd love to have parrots as pets.. second will be cats.. but a NO-NO to dogs INSIDE THE HOUSE! Anyway Mamaof3 I don't want to sound odious but I hope that you know what are Islam's views on dogs as personal pets.. hunting and security reasons are okay and if you find a dog in horrible condition (injuries, dying etc.) it is good to help him too.. but for entertainment purposes..
Retroguy, it is perfectly OK in Islam to have dogs. Only hadith forbid it and that is in direct contradiction to the quran.
I love dogs, cats are OK. We have 2 cats, but I really want a big dumb dog. Unfortunately we can’t really have a dog realistically because we travel a a lot. I LOVE LOVE LOVE dogs.

About 9 months ago I started feeding her regularly, and for the past 6-7 months, she’s been staying inside the apartment most of the time. I don’t have a litter box for her so I let her out 2-3x/day. Took her to a vet last week…she’s having some “skin issues” that’s freaking me out. Heh…I named her “Stray”, and at the vet’s office, everyone kept asking me what her name was…guess when they say “Stray” written on her file, they thought no way that could be her name! **

i loved having a cat around but it would leave its hair everywhere...on the sofa, on the carpet, on the bedsheets. it also frays the threads of the sofa by sharpening its nails on it. i prefer cats with a friendly and loving personality. i dont see the point of having mute, dumb, slow or timid pets like mice, squirrels, turtles and geckos.
Who’d like to have a chimpanzee/gorilla as a pet. There was this gorilla named Koko who was kept for scientific observation in a lab, and he got involved in a sexual harrassment case after some of his female caretakers said that Koko forced them into taking off their clothes and then fondled their nippies .. a bit disgusting I know the same time :hehe:, think they have some links here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koko_(gorilla)
