Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

Even during this chilled winter time i am craving for a khulfi. I had it only once in Karachi..it was soo yummy…all i remember is that it looked green and had pistas and badam in it. Has anyone tried making it at home? Many indian Web sites has the recipe but i am wondering if its made same way in karachi?

Re: Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

I had peshawari ice cream at a place in Bhadur abad in karachi, it was quite yummy. KUlfi is pretty basic and most kulfis have the badaam, pista and khoya in it --- okay now im drooling.

Re: Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

there's this place in rawalpindi famous for its falooda...usually a long line of cars outside his tiny place.....the BEST falooda in the world.

Re: Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

I hate falooda. I really really do. Dumb dish.

Re: Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

I made kulfi recently for an eid get together of friends and family visting from out of state.

it turned out to be a blast and it was extremely easy to make.

here is the receipe...

get cool whipe box from grocery store. there are two sizes available can't remember the actual size in lbs/grams. get the smaller one. get one condensed milk canned and one carnation milk canned. chop badam and pista to a mixed powder like shape.

mix 3/4th cool whipe cream, all of the condensed milk and all of the carnation milk together in a blender. Put most of the badam pista poweder in the blender for mixing as well but leave some for later use. Now pour the outcome into a tray and put the tray in the freezer for a few hours. It will freez in just a couple of a hours. Use the remainder of the badam pista powder to spready over the frozen kulfi before serving.

This was amazingly yummy. We were all very very surprised with the results. It doesn't sound like it from the ingridiants but trus me, it was shockingly tasty. Try it tonight and then let me know.

and why is that

Re: Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

wow thanks Asif…this sounds delicious…i’ll definitely give it a try over the weekend. I’m already mouth watered

Re: Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

We make it similar to what Asif mentioned, but instead of cool whip, we use half & half table cream. It comes out really yummy!

So, one can of carnation milk, one can of condensed milk, one 250mL carton of half & half. Blend together with powdered pistachio...and freeze. I'm craving some now. :-\

Re: Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

So did anyone try my kulfi yet?

Re: Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

Asif, by cool whip, do you mean whipping cream (milk form) or the foam type nozzle can white cream?

Re: Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

I make it the same wy too but with heavy whipping cream instead of coolwhip or half n half. Its too sweet for me. I think i'll try half n half next time.

FG coolwhip is a very light prewhipped cream that comes in creamcheese kinda tub, just larger.

Re: Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

You can find it in the frozen section of any grocery store (kroger, walmart, etc.)

Re: Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

i dont have to wait coupla hours for kulfi to freeze. i just head off to jackson heights which is 15 minutes from my house by train so nananananana!:nahnah:

Re: Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

I made khulfi over the weekend and it turned out to be soo yummyyyy. I used half & half milk instead of whip cream and I also added 2 tsp of crushed cardamom and 2 tsp of rose water. Although it was absolutely delicious, it was little on the heavy side. I was wondering Iif next time i can add 3.25% milk instead of half & half

Re: Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

Because it is making me hungry :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Re: Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

Printable Version

Cool whip in a container ( there are two sizes available can't remember the actual size in lbs/grams. get the smaller one)
One condensed milk canned
One carnation milk canned
Chop badam and pista to a mixed powder like shape.

Mix 3/4th cool whipe cream, all of the condensed milk and all of the carnation milk together in a blender. Put most of the badam pista poweder in the blender for mixing as well but leave some for later use.

Now pour the outcome into a tray and put the tray in the freezer for a few hours. It will freez in just a couple of a hours. Use the remainder of the badam pista powder to spready over the frozen kulfi before serving.

This was amazingly yummy.

Re: Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

Just a quick note, but the "carnation milk" that's been mentioned in the recipe is actually evaporated milk (remember that evaporated milk and condensed milk are two separate things). This kulfi turns out surprisingly good. Only caveat: it melts rapidly as compared to true kulfi. But nothing beats impressing your guests with this though.

Re: Peshawari ice cream / khulfi

I tried it with half and half as well, and it was good except that it was kind of icy, it wasn’t as smooooth. The flavor was a bit ruined with ice crisps in the mouth, other than that it was ok. I like it way more with the cool whip.
