Work is rapidly in progress on Peshawar-Islamabad Motor Way with many sections of it already completed and the major remaining task is the laying of a bridge over Indus upstream Attock. The people of Sawabi and Mardan will then be able to travel to Islamabad in less than one hour…The motor way is expected to be open for traffic by the end of 2006. The prices of land beside the motor way have soared.

Motorway is a reality and it has been long in coming. Too bad we had Bhatoo MAToo's chamchas and his dukhter BB kick out South Koreans. Otherwise this road would have been complete many years ago. These show-shaw-lists (socialists) have literally ruined our country.

How long does it take to get to Peshawar from Islamabd Currently, and what is the etimated time saved through the new Motorway?
What is the condition of the current road, I think its the same one that runs through Taxila and Wah?

Great that brings the count to 3/5 total to link the country and bring down the cost of transporting goods to ports.....also, the central asian republics, with no access to water, will use Pakistan for port access, if Afghanistan get stabilized!

Totally ignoring the fact that people like Sharif built the Islamabad-Lahore highway,amongst others. But according to Mushy lovers only he can build a road.

It is 6 lanes.
Currently, it takes two and half hours from Peshawar to Islamabad. Most likely the time will be reduced by 1 hour. The current road is in better condition. And yes it is the same road. Motor way will bypass Taxila and Wah Cantt.

The current Indus Highway that connects Peshawar to Kohat, Bannu, DI Khan, and onwards will be made two-way with another tunnel through Kotal Pass (between Kohat and Peshawar). The revenue from the existing tunnel has encouraged the govt to build another tunnel. Daily, around 6000 vehicles pass through it.
The Indus Highway will be connected to Ghulam Khan North Waziristan, so another trade route. And express way from Peshawar to Torkham along Khyber pass will also be built.
Mushy has promised beginning of work on Lawari Tunnel that would connect Chitral to Dir; will be an all-weather road for trade between China and Pakistan...this route has the potential to connect Pakistan to Tajakistan and Kirghizistan...
However, roads to Swat and Malakand divison are in dilipidated condition.

ISB-Burhan portion is already operational which leads you to Hasan Abdal ( a Km further than Hasan Abdaal city).

70% of Islamabad Peshawar motorway pass thru Punjab, only 30%( a small portion) pass thru NWFP. We need motorway from Chitral to Peshawar to Quatta to Khuzdar to Gowader. That will be some thing.

Is there a road connection between Quetta with Multan or cities? I remember travel to Quetta from Karachi was really long.

I think they have plans for such a highway since all the talk these days is on connecting Central Asia, through Afghanistan, through Peshawar, Quetta and ending at Gawadar… They already connected Gawadar to the nearest city, Quetta will be next I suppose..
