Peshawar-Islamabad Motor Way

Re: Peshawar-Islamabad Motor Way

A Korean company will start work on Lawari Tunnel in October 2005. This is a big news for the people of Chitral and adjoining Dir. Tourism and trade will boom. I have heard that the connection road between Gilgit and Chitral is being black-topped and it is used for transportation.

For trade and tourism, this route is better than Karakuram Highway because it will be all-weather and pass through smooth terrain.

Re: Peshawar-Islamabad Motor Way

The main objective of Lawari tunnel is strategic not for the betterment of the people, off course people will also be benefited. This route will be used to connect to China for military purpose because Karakurram highway is under constant surveillance from India. Furthermore, the roads that are suppose to be built in NWFP are not motorways.

Re: Peshawar-Islamabad Motor Way

Yes you are right Malakand but ok, something is better than nothing...

The irony is they will start work on Lawari in October, when snow will start falling. I dont know are they serious.

LastoftheDinosaurs, thank you for being descriptive. Now please give us your opinions.

Re: Peshawar-Islamabad Motor Way

pakjangjo, thank you.....both bad and good things should be mentioned. We cannot shut eyes to certain problems and grave realities and challenges....

Re: Peshawar-Islamabad Motor Way

Sometimes it is easier to blast the rocks when they are frozen solid. Alaskan highways were built during winter time as well.

p.s. Just providing historical stuff. I am not connected to the Lawari project.

Re: Peshawar-Islamabad Motor Way

Nothing in Pakistan happens unless its strategic and economically beneficial... Not even in Punjab. How many areas in Punjab lack infrastructure despite being in Punjab?

Re: Peshawar-Islamabad Motor Way

I should suspect that forzen mountains are safer to dynamite then those that arent..

Re: Peshawar-Islamabad Motor Way

Anti, the snow there isn’t Alaskan-scale to make the rocks frozen solid…most likely willl only block the work…

Re: Peshawar-Islamabad Motor Way

^^ Hey man! That was just a guesstimate on my part. I said so.

I hope and pray that the project starts as scheduled.
