PTI has a golden chance to redeem some laurels it lost on account of talks with the TTP.
IK should devise a strategy to:
1: Vaccinate a certain number of kids in one week
2: Mark a certain area as a target
3: Arrange a solid security cover for the area and vaccinators
4: Spearhead the campaign himself
5: Analyze the result after 7 days.
If there are no short-term goals set, the campaign will never succeed.

In this recent polio campaign, Imran said that Dr Shakeel Afridi is PARTIALLY responsible for this situation in the province.
But in that whole news item I could not see the name of the cult which is DIRECTLY responsible for this situation!

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan stated that Dr Shakil Afridi was partially responsible for the spread of polio in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Express News reported on Friday.
Speaking at the press conference, Imran Khan noted that polio is a very serious issue and that the PTI is committed to eradicating the virus from the province.
While speaking about the various problems facing the anti-polio campaign, he mentioned Dr Shakil Afridi who ran a fake vaccination campaign and collected DNA samples on behalf of the CIA in the bid to locate Osama bin Laden.
Because of him, Imran explained, people have become suspicious of health workers.
“Whoever is targeting polio workers and policemen, is committing an injustice towards Islam, KP and Pakistan,” Imran Khan said. The PTI chief spoke to local residents about polio and how important it is to tackle the disease.

Actually in the shayr I cited above, Imran looks like the ‘joru’ who never calls husband’s (Taliban’s) name. He always innocently alludes to the ‘criminals’. ‘unhon ne kiya’, ‘wo log’, ‘kuch log’, ‘mujrimon ko giraftar kiya jaaye’.

Thats what I fear. The increased talibanisation of Pak this problem(along with other problems) will not stay only in NWFP and will spread throughout the Pakistan. Karachi is just a start.

Exactly - I was at work when I first saw this thread and showed it to a co-worker (Program Manager of Hospital Immunization Program) and she told me that she has recetly heard about Indian becoming polio free.
Kudos to India for seeing value in their funture generation, treating them like humans are supposed to treat other human and protecting them from this disease.

Polio security team attacked in Charsadda; seven dead
PESHAWAR: At least seven people were killed and nine others injured Wednesday in an explosion near a police vehicle on its way for security duty for polio immunisation workers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Charsadda district.
The dead included six policemen and a bystander child.
Wednesday’s attack comes only a day after the immunisation drive in Karachi was suspended following the attack on a vaccination team in the city’s Qayyumabad area.
The Charsadda police control room confirmed that the police van was attacked in Sardheri bazaar as it was on its way for security duty for an immunisation team.
The police mobile van was destroyed in the blast.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Mardan Range Saeed Wazir said that the bomb, weighing four to five kilograms, was planted on a cycle. He added that the IED was remotely detonated and left six police officials and a child dead.
The injured have been shifted to District Hospital Charsadda for treatment.
In another incident in Punjab province’s Bhakkar district, the vehicle of a polio vaccination team came under attack.
The attack left the windows of the vehicle shattered, injuring the driver of the vehicle and a Lady Health Worker.
On Tuesday, three health workers were killed in an attack on a polio vaccination team in Karachi. After the attack in Karachi, the latest in a series of deadly assaults on vaccination teams, the provincial polio workers’ association said it was halting operations across Sindh province.
The attacks came just days after the World Health Organisation (WHO) warned that Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar was the world’s “largest reservoir” of the polio virus.
Pakistan is one of only three countries in the world where polio remains endemic, along with Afghanistan and Nigeria. Efforts to eradicate it have been seriously hampered by the deadly targeting of vaccination teams in recent years.
Militant groups see vaccination campaigns as a cover for espionage, and there are also long running rumours about polio drops causing infertility.
According to the WHO, Pakistan recorded 91 cases of polio last year compared with 58 in 2012. So far, four new polio cases have been recorded in 2014.

Th taleban are present in all cities, most dangerous is the mindset which is allowing them space. During the past few years when ever some incident happened (starting from Malala Yusufzai) we have been inadvertently bailing these people out. The result is in front of us. We will need to recognize the biggest threat to Pakistan, which is the growth of extremism amongst our population.
