Great job PTI. I hope the rest of the province is also disinfected swiftly and the federal government will do its part in FATA. Pakistan still faces the great challenge of exterminating the virus from its soil completely.
Re: Peshawar declared polio-free
I hope it is true, an if really true then really great job done!
Re: Peshawar declared polio-free
Great job :k:
Re: Peshawar declared polio-free
Bravo!
PTI had every reason to ditch this polio movement stating security concerns and looming war threats. But hats off to them for treating this historic health care drive in the province as a now or never duty. Terrible levels of terrorist violence and threats accompanied the movement throughout, but every fallen and survived volunteer and official who has taken part in this movement to save Pakistan’s future is a national hero. Good to know that army has finally decided to take over the security of polio team in the KPK. :k:
All the very best to them.
Viva la Pakhtoonkha!

Re: Peshawar declared polio-free
Great job done by PTI government but i really doubt Peshawar can be declared polio free when it was called hub of Polio just couple of months ago. It does give you hope that lot of seemingly impossible tasks can be achieved if government gets their priorities right.
Re: Peshawar declared polio-free
This is just nonsense by a minister of PTI , giving a 'Jalebi' type strait statement . Khatra mojood hay , Polio free hay , Har maheenay teen din Mahm chalain gay .
Many U turns in his statement .

Re: Peshawar declared polio-free
It's an ongoing battle against polio but the good thing is that the direction of the government is right.
Re: Peshawar declared polio-free
You can't declare the city polio free when there is frequent and unmonitored movement of people into and out of the city from polio areas in NWFP .
Re: Peshawar declared polio-free
I cannot see your link (shows up as a broken link) but is this really coming from some independent health organization and not some political source. I find it a little hard to believe in a matter of a month such a deadly disease can be wiped out in such a dense urban center (and rural to some extent) so quickly.
Re: Peshawar declared polio-free
Highly unlikely that the largest reservoir of polio vaccine can become 'polio free' within a space of three months.
Re: Peshawar declared polio-free
Ok so I finally read the article, what exactly is the 'WTO' whose 'country director' Ilyas Doorey seems to be in the bunch of folks who made this statement.
Re: Peshawar declared polio-free
The article headline says “WHO” and in the contents it says “WTO” :hehe:… anyway, I could find only WHO with a “Regional Director” position and there is no Pakistani in the list : WHO | Regional Directors
Someone cooked up the message?
Re: Peshawar declared polio-free
Sehat Ka Insaaf programme which concluded in Peshawar recently, was designed in accordance with the population of the city. So apparently there should not be any concern about the coverage of the drive. Way before the programme started, I had made some suggestion in one of my posts about security arrangements for vaccination teams. I am glad that the security cover which was part of the Sehat Ka Insaaf had most of those measures incorporated. Given the size and seriousness of the programme, I would want to believe that the city would have become polio-free by now. But even if this news is incorrect, the programme should still be able to eradicate poliovirus to a great extent.
And at the end of the day, the dynamics of population movement in the city, especially given the influx of Afghan people, the government can never afford to wrap up such a programme and rest on its laurels.
Re: Peshawar declared polio-free
Lies. This is not possible at all due to the nature of the disease.

I hope WHO will step in to clear the air.
By the way, do we know how many vaccine drops a kid has to be administered before poliovirus is killed in his system?
Re: Peshawar declared polio-free
Its not killed in the system. What the vaccine does it is that it binds with the necessary elements in the body so that when polio enters the body from contaminated water, it has no place to bind.
Consider it someone taking your park spot before polio can park there.
The dosage is 3 drops on average. The WHO team in Afghanistan when I was posted there did 3 drops.
