Personal Safety

List your safety tips to avoid becoming a victim.

Re: Personal Safety

Stay indoors at all times.

Re: Personal Safety

How can it save one from getting choked while eating or drinking something.
Falling roof.
slip and fall in shower.
trip and fall on the carpet.
No body is safe from accidents anywhere. But common sense should be used while doing or handling certain things like:
Do not iron you clothes while you are wearing them.
Do not put your clothes in washing machine while you are wearing them.
Do not point the gun towards youself while you check it whether it is loaded.

Re: Personal Safety

Do not POST derogratory remarks about people you know especially young teenager Cheer Leaders on "My Space" or "GUPSHUP":)

or you will get a thrashing like they showed on ABC News this morning!

Anyone seen the Video these six girls made while beating up on one schoolmate for posting remarks on "MYSPACE"

the poor girl got two black eyes, was knocked out, and came to then the beating continued......that is so dispicable!.:(

Be aware of your surroundings.

Know of an action plan (for ladies, keep ur Mase handy)

Walk fast until you've reached your vehicle.

Keep keys handy.

Have Emergency numbers saved on the speed dial. (i.e. 911 hotkeyed to 1 on cell phone, etc.)

Re: Personal Safety

Good, we are finally getting somewhere lol.

Re: Personal Safety

Yes we are. Just curious though, should it be under Health n Fitness? lol It’s alright i suppose :hmmm:

Re: Personal Safety

I guess if some self-defence is or may be involved then it should be in health and fitness.

Re: Personal Safety

I can see the fitness part playing a role in all this :hehe:

Re: Personal Safety

:hehe: What about the health? Say you got beaten up or stabbed, it might affect your health, mental even if not physical.

Re: Personal Safety

Well that would be the "after-effect". You would have to be fit(ness) in order to defend yourself in the first place. Unless you're big and know a thing or two about Sumo Wrestling!

Re: Personal Safety

The key is to avoid putting yourself in that situation to begin with. This requires acting smart, and using some common sense. I am not big...I am sure there are many guys here bigger than me, but do know a thing or two about sumo wrestlinng lol.

Re: Personal Safety

not getting into a situation where personal safety is going to be at risk.
when avoidance is possible, that should be the best prevention of any risk. also, making sure that you have one person looking after you, when you are in a crowd getting something done, and when you know you probably has someone ready to attack you in any way the opportunity becomes available.

being strong and able to defend onseself from hurt, will require disciplined training.

best,
Dushwari

Re: Personal Safety

i was wondering the same :hmmm:

Re: Personal Safety

:k:…Ditto

Re: Personal Safety

Something as simple as walking with assurance and confidence can make a lot of difference. It is proven that those that physically or sexually assault others look for easy targets, and obviously body langauge plays a big part in this. Therefore you need to act self-assured and confident. Be aware of your surroundings. Walk with your back straight, head high and at a steady pace.

Re: Personal Safety

in grade 9 and 10, we had to learn self defense for gym. here r a few things they taught us:
-your elbow is stronger than your fist or hand, use it.
-most guys will expect you to hit them 'there' using your knee, so don't use it. use your fist or elbow instead.
-if someone is choking you, don't try to pry their hands away from your throat using your hands. out your arms between your assailant's arms and try to wedge his apart.
-never scream 'gun/shooting/beating...' because people will never come out in fear for their own safety. always scream, 'fire, fire'. this will get people to come out and investigate.
-never run in a straight line. always run in a zig-zag pattern, and your chances of getting shot will decrease.
-if you are locked in a car's trunk, break the back light using your fist and wave your hand. your kidnapper will not know that you are doing that, but someone else may notice and get help for you.
-if someone points a gun/knife at you and tells you to drive, NEVER EVER do that. instead, try and drive your car into the nearest tree/building. your air bag will most likely save you, and you will get enough time to get out of the car and run, screaming 'fire, fire' of course.
-while driving at night, keep all car doors locked; especially when stopped at a red signal. a friend of mine was sexually assaulted because someone got into her car at night at a red signal from the passenger side.
-if a thief asks for your jewelery/wallet, NEVER give it to them. throw it to the side and run towards the opposite direction. chances are, they will be more interested in getting the bounty than shooting you.

as arshad said, try and prevent yourself from being in such a situation in the first place. in the event of a worst outcome, scratch your assailant's face or arms with your finger nails. it will at least give police dna they require to help identify the person. and remember, most sexual attacks on women are by the people they know. so be friendly, but still stay aware/careful.
