Re: Period pain

A warm drink should help....if you stay active then the pain gets lesser amd lesser.

I knew someone who used to get pains so severe that she used to faint! Thankfully, most of us are not so unlucky and experience only minor cramps. The posters above have mentioned everything correctly. Hot water bottles help a lot and so do warm drinks. Chamomile tea or adrak wali chai or any such herbal/desi tea is great. And as hareem mentioned, u should exercise regularly, yoga is supposed to help. Don't think about medication unless its extremely painful.

Re: Period pain

Women's Tylenol helps a lot.

Other then that, I think a hot water bottle does the trick for me too...as well as tea...lavendar or chamomile tea.

Re: Period pain

I take Midol. Helps me a great deal. I get pretty severe pain too.

Yeh, this happened to me a few times, not from the pain but the very low b.p. when I'd get up in the morning with uber cramps. Sometimes they would be really, really severe. Other times 'normal'.

I take ibrupofen tablets. Eat well and avoid cold things, if I couldn't be at home with a hot water bottle I found Cura Heat patches indispensable. I'd use the back pain ones as they were a lot bigger than the period pain ones.

And I find the activity thing is nonsense. Cramps are going to get 'lesser and lesser' over the day regardless of whether you are active or stay in bed.
When I was at school, I would get severe muscular cramps in my lower back and thighs, I couldn't even walk up or down the stairs without one of my friends helping let alone go for a walk or jog.

I highly second that! :k:

My pain is not too agonizing yet it leaves me quite uncomfortable specially when I am in school or at work. So that’s what I like to drink during those days and it helps immensely.

Re: Period pain

i used to hav bad pain. my friend told me this totka n it really worked wonders. lightly fry 1 tsp of turmeric in lil bit of oil n mix in warm milk. will feel hard to drink but this thing is gr8.

Re: Period pain

Hot water bottle.

I wud like to try some of the above mentioned totkas :(

Taking ibropofen for period pain is nonsense.....besides the poster didn't ask for any medication.

Re: Period pain

^why is it nonsense dear hareem?

ibuprofen is for muscular pains and guess what? period pains are caused by muscular contractions.

oh no! :frowning:
there’s even scientific research to back its effectiveness: http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSCOL67341320070206

Re: Period pain

I used to get really bad period pains too, and I found laying on my stomach really helped. If it was especially bad, I'd put a pillow underneath. And I know the original poster said no meds, but you know, if the pain is really bad, taking a panadol or something is really the best thing to do, I think. Hot water bottles are pretty awesome too.

She said “no meds”.

Re: Period pain

I didn't tell her to take them, I just listed all the things I do for mine.

You still didn't answer my question. Care to enlighten me on why taking ibuprofen is nonsense?

If you have painful enough cramps that you can't function normally, no amount of natural remedies will help. You need proper medication.

Re: Period pain

I used to get sent home from work/college everytime my period came, I have fainted a few times, And been stuck to my bed or even the floor coz the pain is so bad. However over time i tried medicines hot water bottles heat pads. (Only good for the back imo) When your period comes you tend to get constipated so the thing what i do is make sure i go to toilet before my period comes when it comes and after. If you go to toilet a day before your period comes you tend not to get any pains. Only a odd minor ones. This imo works for *me. *Not sure if it would for you but i dont see why not. Makes sense.

Re: Period pain

^It depends on the individual. Some people get constipation, others diarrhoea.

Heat pads or hot water bottles can help ease the pain of cramps themselves and is documented in research papers although the mechanism for why isn't understood.

Re: Period pain

^ True, I do find heat does soothe the pain. But the internal pain i do find that method does work for me, Which im quite happy about considering i've suffered really badly over the years from period pains. Who would of thought something as simple as that would ease the pain.

Re: Period pain

Well, most people have regular (more than once a day) bowel movements anyway :/

I don't know....may be You can become addicted and stuff and can't bear pain even when it's not severe.

Btw, I like period pains, they're therapeutic but they've gone lesser after having babies. :(

About staying active? Yes it does help in a way, you keep yourself busy in things and don't really give the pain much thinking.
