Why do they say do not wash your hair when your period is on?

I think, it's the 1st day of period that they say do not shower with cold water...something like that....

i've heard they say you shouldn't take a shower during your period, but that's just nastyyyy.
taking a shower just makes you feel so much more cleaner.
maybe the washing your hair part is the same thing as taking a shower?

Why not? I've always had a shower as soon as a come on and everyday when im on, I cant stand it. If you dont shower u *will *smell. So sort it out ladies.

I take baths when im on my period....i have heard these things too...but i dnt care.

I don't take baths just shower. mum says ur hips get bigger if u take baths not sure if there's any truth innit tho

This is the first time I have heard this and all I can say is eew! Wouldn't Allah(swt) want you to stay clean and hygienic? I am not understanding this. I take showers almost everyday on my p**..My Mom has taught me to always be clean, well groomed etc. She would lecture me if I decided to go 2 or more days without a shower. Can someone who knows about this rule tell me where it came from and please explain why one should not bathe at this time? This just sounds like something a taliban official would make up. And you girls do know that being in water stops your per right? You don't keep bleeding in the bathtub perpetually..lol..
Another reason I can see why this rule is implemented or shall I say made up is b/c a woman shouldn't smell good or be attractive for her husband so he doesn't get tempted..but umm..what about those of us who have to go to office/school? I say leave the 1200 year old rule in the garbage and stay clean ladies! Plus, a husband has the right to eat dinner with his wife while shes at the time of the month and he has the right not to sit next to a smelly and/or unbathed person. Don't compensate and say oh so a woman sould try and smell good still by wearing perfume..thats just covering the smell up and still bad, plus that would still attract the hubs no?..Trust me, you don't want to stop taking a shower for 2 or more days unless the water is cut off to your house and in that case go shower at a friends house! heehee..No seriously!

I don't usually shower the first day as I am in pain and like to just be in bed comfortable, but usualy by 2nd day I like the warm shower it makes me feel much better and cleaner.

Are you freaking kidding me? Some women have full 7 days of periods, they won't take shower for 7 days?! People say everything and anything, it is up to us to use our common sense and do what deems fit.
I heard a lady doctor say once, let me just add that she is a lecturer at Agha Khan, that during periods a woman needs to remain clean etc because there is a chance of bacterial infections etc. Not only that but a woman needs to continuously change her pads. After every 4 hours etc. Do not wait for it to get full. If that is the case surely that means that overall a person needs to remain clean as well. So a person gets clean using a shower/bath. In that case in my opinion taking a bath/shower etc during menstruation is highly important to remain clean.
