as i understand… Chritians, Jews and Muslims are regarded as ‘people of the books’..
ive grown up to believe that all the people of the books will have a place in heaven… but to my disbelief.. a few days back someone told me that is not the case..
‘only muslims will go to heaven’… is that the case?
if we believe in all the prophets before Prophet Mohammad (pbuh).. and we believe in the Torah and Old Testament.. how can it be that Jews and Chritians will not go to heaven either?
The Holy Quran has mentioned the Jews and Christians that are going to Paradise as ‘righteous’. Following the path set forth by Allah :swt: which was brought to them in different times by different Prophets, may peace be upon them…
Quran being the last one, invalidates previous messages…No doubt they are from Allah :swt:, yet they have been tampered with by men…They have become defunct and their book is now closed…
I believe that even if the Bible and the Torah have been tampered with 99.9%…There still leaves that .1% which might be the true word…As a result I respect these books a lot…
Any religious book…The Source might be the same…
This is the reason Muslims should maintain the highest principles of following the deen in its purest form…
LaillahaIlAllah-MohammeduRasoolAllah
No additions to this, no subtractions to this…It’s what every Muslim wishes to say on his dying breath…

Firstly, why should ALL muslims go to heaven (I'm sure this is not what you are implying - or is it ? eg including murdurers, rapists etc).
Secondly, there are more people in the world who will not be born into Islam - Christians, Jews and those of other faiths - who will lead immensley pious and 'good' lives - i.e in actions behaving as muslims should but not actually being muslims themselves - and having the absolute conviction in their own faith, using wisdom and logic with the brain that Allah gave them. It is not their fault they were not born muslim - is it ?
What is to become of such people ? Are you saying, with absolute conviction, that they will all go to hell ?? Does it make sense ? After all, Allah created them.
People should not be the judge for others - leave it to Allah - look after yourself.
Qur'an 7.172 -.173
When thy Lord drew forth from the Children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants, and made them testify concerning themselves, (saying): "Am I not your Lord (who cherishes and sustains you)?"- They said: "Yea! We do testify!" (This), lest ye should say on the Day of Judgment: "Of this we were never mindful"
Or lest ye should say: "Our fathers before us may have taken false gods, but we are (their) descendants after them: wilt Thou then destroy us because of the deeds of men who were futile?"
Risky, Islam says that all people are born as muslims, and changed later.
Actually, according to Quran, people other than Ahlay-Kitab, can also be rewarded the blessings of heaven.
[5: 69/70]. Surely those who believed, and the Jews, and the Sabians, and the Christians - whoso believes in Allah and the Last Day and does good deeds, on them shall come no fear, nor shall they grieve.
The above verse clearly shows that Islam does not monopolize salvation, and in fact followers of other religions, 'whoso believes in Allah and the Last Day and does good deeds' will be rewarded.
Now, a majority of Muslims believe this verse to be abrogated by another verse of the same Sura Al-Maida
[5: 3/4]. Forbidden to you is the flesh of an animal which dies of itself, and blood and the flesh of swine; and that on which is invoked the name of any other than Allah; and that which has been strangled; and that which has been beaten to death; and that which has been killed by a fall and that which has been gored to death; and that of which a wild animal has eaten, except that which you have properly slaughtered; and that which has been slaughtered at an altar as an offering to idols. And forbidden is also this that you seek to know your lot by the divining arrows. That is an act of disobedience. This day have those who disbelieve despaired of harming your religion. So fear them not, but fear ME. **This day have I perfected your religion for you and completed MY favour upon you and have chosen for you Islam as religion. **But whoso is forced by hunger, without being wilfully inclined to sin, then, surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, and is Merciful.
In their opinion the verse above is in contradiction with the previous one and so previous one is considered abrogated. Their claim is that as Islam has been chosen to be the preferred religion, therefore who so disobeys is not worthy of any reward.
So, if you want to look at the issue from Quarnic point of view, it all boils down to if you believe that certain verses abrogate earlier ones or not.
everything needs to be understood in its proper perspective and
context to gain the correct picture. Otherwise, the incorrect picture will
be perceived by people misunderstanding Imaan to be only monotheism.
Allah Ta'ala says in the noble Qur' aan,
'Those who make Kufr with Allah and His messengers seek to
differentiate between Allah and His messengers and say, 'We believe in a few and reject a few'.
They are the real disbelievers and we have prepared for
the disbelievers a torment and punishment.'
In other words, correct Imaan in the terminology of the Qur'aan is made of two aspects, monotheism and prophethood. Neglecting either one is Kufr. Disbelieving in any messenger is Kufr.
The same will apply to those Jews and Christians who do not fulfil this
portion of their faith as desired by Allah Ta'ala, negating the prophethood of the final messenger of Allah, Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam).

OK so babies continue to be born in households which are Christian, Jewish and a multitude of other non-muslim faiths - all with Allah's knowledge and design. These babies will not be taught the wisdom that you have just quoted - again all with Allah's knowledge. Ultimately, according to your interpretation, they will all perish in hell - all with Allah's for-knowledge as Allah is all knowing, all seeing (the past and future - i.e their destiny was predetermined). Does it make sense ?
ahmadjee, the "theory of abrogation" has been rejected by many scholars and in this particular case too it's a simple case of misunderstanding one verse and then finding another verse contradictory to the already established belief, declaring one of them void!
Islam wasn't brought by Prophet Muhammad and is not the property of Arab or Persian scholars.. It was the religion of all prophets and hence true followers of the message brought by earlier prophets are guaranteed salvation by Allah and hence both verses quoted make perfect sense.
Today's Christians, Jews and Muslims are nothing more than sects.. they are not following the ISLAM Qur'an lays down for us.. each follows a new religion created by their scholars.
PA bhai, I do not believe in the theory of abrogation myself. I was only stating what is commonly believed and so maybe the questioner can have a grasp on the difference in opinion! He/She can make up their own minds.
IMO, how can there be any contradiction in the book where Allah states in the very beginning, in Surah Al Baqarah, that it's a perfect book with no doubts?!
I think that people that followed other faiths before Islam will have a place in heaven. Since the time of the Prophet Muhammad, one has to believe in "LaillahaIlAllah-MohammeduRasoolAllah" to get a chance to get into heaven.
Riksy, most people have been given a working brain and ability to learn which is why it does not matter into what faith one is born but only what one believes in.

OK - lets continue with this chain of thought. Let's say you are born into a christian family, and at some stage when you've reached some level of maturity and independence, you decide to take stock of your beliefs and do a comparative analysis of the different faiths. Lets say you attempt to be as objective as you can be in this assessment. Lets say you decide that there is no need for you to change faiths. What is your fate likely to be on the day of judgement ? Bear in mind that, as far as you were concerned, you approached the assessment with an open mind, and in your opinion you reached an honest conclusion with respect to yourself. Will you be told "tough luck - wrong choice -off to hell! ".
On the other hand, will Allah look at your faith alone or will he make a rounded assessment of you as a complete person, i.e in terms of your actions, thoughts, overall behaviour on earth etc. Lets say you were a kind, generous person who was all too willing to help others etc etc - all the things muslims are supposed to be - what then ? Does that count in your favour at all ?
who will go to hell a person who risked his life to save muslims
or who killed muslim in gujarat? or it does not matter what you do
it depends on what religen you belong?

…and it is at this point that muslims (who are convinced by the above) switch off their brains and throw all thier good sense out of the window. Never mind about all the verses that proclaim Allah to be the most merciful and beneficient…
When peoples stop rationalising and trying to make sense of their beliefs and the world around them, they become robots, stuck in time… and I’m afraid that’s what happened to muslim thought and civilisation starting a few hundred years ago and we still haven’t snapped out of it.
