People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion

Seems like this time Fiqh Council of North America has pre-determined the dates for Ramzaan and Eid. According to them

Ramzaan 1427 - First of Fasting September 23, 2006 (Saturday)
Eid ul Fitr 1427 - First of Shawwal October 23, 2006 (Monday)

Source: http://www.isna.net/index.php?id=35&backPID=1&tt_news=764

However, looking at www.moonsighting.com it seems the actual moon will be sighted a day later for each of these months.

Do you think we will again have two different start dates of Ramzaan and two Eids in all the various muslim communities, considering many muslim organizations don’t agree with the concept of pre-meditated establishment of a calendar or to start an Islamic month without sighting the moon. Or even to affiliate themselves with ISNA (who are considered stooges of Saudi government)?

Or can we expect a reasonable uniformity in the muslim community after the fiascos of last few year(s).

Re: People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion

What happened to the naked eye?

Re: People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion

Its still there.

Re: People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion

How? If you've pre-determined a date, then you didn't use any naked eye.

Re: People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion

yea...it depends on the sightings of the moon.............

Re: People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion

Read my post again.

One muslim organization - albeit a large one, ISNA, has decided to follow a pre-determined calendar. There are many other organizations, mostly local and regional, who disagree with this approach, just as you said.

It may turn out to be ok, if naked eyes see the moon according to the announced calendar.

It will be ugly again this year, if that doesn't happen. Two start dates of Ramzaan. Two different sets of taaq raatein. And the cake of all - two different Eid days. With organizations having many muslim employees, some will want Monday off for Eid, and some others will want Tuesday off. Employers scratching their heads and saying "hmmm, whats going on there!". Beautiful!

Re: People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion

I'm sure it'll be like yesteryears. I don't see all of us agreeing on a single date. In fact, I don't feel too comfortable following a preset date unless there's a strong reason for it, aside from the unity thing (which we all know doesn't work for us).

Re: People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion

I'd like to re-propose my idea of sending a committee of scholars up in a high-altitude plane every year above cloud level to check for the moon.

Re: People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion

ya, it is same every year and I doubt they will ever unite on one date..too bad

Re: People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion

yaay! confusion again!

seriously...just go with the predetermined days. it's all been calculated, many many times over. if other lunar based faiths can use them, why can't we?

Re: People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion

**Good News: The Fiqh Council of North America has announced that it will no longer rely on naked eye moon sightings to determine the start of Islamic months and would instead use astronomical calculations...:) **

seems this was decided a few months ago, that is a step forward!

Re: People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion

Her ghari tyar kamran hain ham her confusion ky liy:)

Re: People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion

Oh really:confused:

Re: People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion

The naked eye still constitutes the primary criteria for determining the start of Ramadan and the day of Eid. This however should NOT preclude the use of standard astronomy based calculations. I don’t see anything wrong with using calculations to determine that on a certain date, the moon will be too small to spot with the naked eye so Ramadan/Eid cannot be on day X-1… and on certain date, say X+1, it will be big enough to spot… hence by interpolation, Ramadan/Eid will be on day X. These are pretty basic procedures which even a second year Physics student will be able to perform. Why not then use these!?

Re: People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion

The irony of such a decision is that it is taken in the name of unity so that we all agree on a common term and besides the point that a muslim must follow what Allah:swt: and Prophet:saw: has ordered and not any ideological approach of forming unity, please show me the UNITY now

Stupids!

Re: People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion

Yep, we CAN be united and blessed, definetly by neglecting Prophet's way of starting month.

Re: People in the US - Pls get ready for your annual Ramzaan and Shawaal confusion
