Doesnt bother me at all...unless of course I'm hungry too! Like most of the others, I think it can be a tad gross when you see a sloppy eater but heck, you dont have to watch....
In the fast pace of city life in the west, most people do a "grab-n-go" type of meal as almost a matter of routine, yeah? You see ALL kinds of rush-rush types of things in public transport - guys tying their ties, using portable razors, gals applying make-up, moms changing diapers. Most people dont notice, you kind of develop your own personal bubble and dont notice whats going on mere inches from you lol!

^ Actually i've never seen someone change baby's diaper on hte subway...I do feel bad for the mums who hav to drag those huge strollers and diaper bags up all those flights of stairs but I do get annoyed as heck if it's a 4 year old in that stroller...

lol Ms Saieen! But truly....4-yr olds do tire quickly with lots of walking which is kind of a given in the city. If I lived there, I guess I'd prefer hauling the stroller with the 4-yr old rather than having to end up carrying the kid after a few blocks.

mama, the people you're referring to (and I've not read the thread but have some idea) are just spewing their hate. mindless and reactionary. so it doesn't really mean that THEY themselves would have any BETTER plan if they were in opposite shoes. It simple as that. you're trying to rationalize something that's purely reactionary and emotional.

I have no problem as long as people are not making mess or eating with slurpy voice or with mouth open.

people have busy lives now-a-days. They can't get enough time sometimes to sit & eat properly at home.

Im not in favour of kissing either. And Im not saying you shouldn't eat anything on the bus or subway; just certain foods. To me , its gross to see someone's saliva on the ice cream as they make the cylindrical shape. Just turns me off; and obviously Im not going to continue to look at it or the person but even the first time is a turn off. Eating ice cream in a cup via a spoon is okay.
Secondly, eating things like hot dogs in front of a large gathering or in a crowd is even more of a turn off. Actually, I don't mind so much guys as I do girls/ladies; just doesn't look right on them, the way they open their mouth wide open to take a bite.
Eating things like chips or fries or peanuts is fine; just some of the more tedious foods, i have a problem with.

Does anyone else get grossed out when you see someone eating food on the bus or subways? I think its not proper etiquette. It totally turns me off (in general) when i see someone licking on their ice cream; like making a cylindrical shape of their ice cream by licking it. Or when someone opens their mouth so wide to take a bite of their hot dog.
Anyone else feels the same?
Your examples seem to imply that it is the phallic/sexual implications that seem inappropriate to you. Is that true? Or is it all public eating?

yeah i find it especially disturbing that he is ok watching guys do it. he thinks it looks just right when they do this :)
