Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

Yea I don’t think there ever was a thread like that. :bummer:

Do a search on this forum on “Chemical peel”, “Lactic peel”, and “glycolic peel” & you’ll see tons of threads that pop up. Based on what you wrote, I would say you need to start with 40% Lactic Acid. If you’re in the U.S., I recommend buying it from Makeup Artists Choice.

Once you’ve had a chance to read the threads that pop up, let me know if you have additional questions.

You should also get a vitamin C serum. This is great for dull skin. I make my own at home but there are several on Amazon that has great review. Here is one I found that seems to have great reviews. You’d use the serum during the day (Serum..and then sunscreen after serum dries), and do the lactic peel once every two weeks (at night).

http://www.amazon.com/VITAMIN-GUARANTEED-Azure-Naturals-ULTIMATE/dp/B00HZ7IRTW/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1424104797&sr=8-10&keywords=vitamin+c+serum

P.S. If you don’t do so already, get a good sunscreen and start using it every day. Sunscreen usage is a MUST if you’re going to be doing peels or using other acids on your skin. I’m currently using Juice Beauty Cellular Stem Repair cream (it has 20% zinc which is GREAT) but you can look for others.

Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

Home Chemical Peels Skin Care Acne Scars Wrinkles

go here and read their instructions, they provide details on how to use them. also review their products on makeupalley.com to get the customer’s perspective too

Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

Forgot to add....from Makeup Artists Choice.....you don't have to get any of the pricey creams for "Post-peel care". Their $10 Argan Oil will do the work just as all. And use the 20% code they have under "daily deal". For the peel, get the 1 oz.

ok so since I ll be using peels for first time I'll buy 40 % lactic acid peel from Mua website.

But I still have some questions

First thing . Can u plz tell me how do u make UR own vitamin c serum
. I have vitamin c capsules from body shop which I ve never used. Can I use tht?

Second for post care .cam I use rosehip oil instead of argon oil?

for moisturizing after applying peel what is the best thing to use?. I have body shop vitamin c moisturiEr and trader joes ( I know it's cheap but somebody told me it's made by some famous dermatologist so I bought it )

and i don't go out much do I still have to wear sunscreen at home? (Sorry for dumb question ) but sunscreen has bend emphazied a lot..

Ok I think I have more question but I forgot so I'll ask tomorrow. Sorry for the trouble though

Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

Get it done at the derm. It's better that way.

Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

for post care, yes you can use argan oil, in fact you can use any oil you like cuz you need the moisture.

for moisturizing after applying peel what is the best thing to use? whenever you go out, always wear sunscreen !!

and i don't go out much do I still have to wear sunscreen at home? YES. even when it isn't sunny outside, still wear sunscreen indoors and out. because the radiation of the sun are still there and still damaging your skin

Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

The link below gives you details of how I make my own Vit. C serum. If you already bought the Vit. C capsules…then go ahead and use it. But I’m not a big fan of all the extra chemicals in these capsule and hate the fact that it does not tell you the % of the Vit. C (ie. L Ascorbic Acid). But again, if you already bought it, no reason so waste it. No harm in trying it to see if it works.

Yes. Rosehip, argan, avacado, jojoba…ANY oil works.

  1. If you’re applying the oil after the peel, you don’t need a separate moisturizer. That’s what the oil is for.

  2. Do NOT apply anything with Vitamin C or any other acids on your after after the peel. You need something that will simply moisturize. I’m not familiar with trader joe’s so can’t comment on that. But again, if you simply apply the oil afterwards, you don’t need anything else.

  3. Never pay attention to brand names, who made it, or the price. Start getting to know ingredients and go by that. I also tend to read reviews online before deciding on products. Most of my skincare tends to be pretty cheap. Higher price is not a guarantee of quality…you’re paying that extra for packaging/brand name.

Sunscreen should be worn ANYTIME you’re exposing your skin to the sun. If your home has a lot of windows or you stand/sit near areas where sunlight/outside light will hit your face/neck directly…then yes, you need to wear sunscreen inside the home. If you’re home but going out into the backyard to hangout or whatever…then put on sunscreen.

I wanted to add that even on days that are cloudy…you still need to wear sunscreen when going out! Do not think that sunscreen is only for bright sunny days.

You many have already read this in other threads but I wanted to give you the timing for these products.

  1. Morning: Vitamin C serum (allow this to soak in/dry) and then sunscreen. Then makeup or whatever you want to put on top.

  2. Nighttime: Vitamin C serum. If your skin is dry and you actually need moisture…then apply moisturizer on top. When you do the peel, that night after the peel, only apply the oil.

  3. Start slow and intro duct one product at a time so your routine. This way, if you have a negative reaction, you know exactly which product caused it. In your case, I would say start with the Vitamin C serum and do that for a week at least. After that…incorporate the peel. Start off the peel once every 2 weeks. After the first 2 peels…(by now you’re also using the serum for over a month), you should have a good idea how your skin is handing the serum/peel. If your skin it not too dry/red/flaky…then you can try doing the 40% LA peel once a week

Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

Hey paheli

Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

Yes. There is a 20% off code on the site. Get the 1 oz.

Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

Ok cool was just waiting for reply.
i can use it on my neck too right?

Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

Yes. Just make sure to do a spot test BEFORE you use it on your face/next. Do the spot test on your jawline.

Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

Ok I got my peel today and I k so excited to try . Will try tomorrow inshallah :)

Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

Paheli. I wanted to ask few more questions.
it says u can wash after peel with soap . I have kojic acid (san kojie) whitening soap( I bought for my hands and face) ? Or should I just rinse the acid only with water?

do I need to use baking soda afterwards coz on makeup alley few people mentioned using it so I m a little confused.

Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

1) Do NOT put ANYTHING put any type of acid or retinol/retin A at least 24 hours after the peel. I actually follow this rule for several days after the peel b/c I don't want to over exfoliate the skin. And this includes San Kojie soap. BTW, I have that soap and its strong.

2) Baking soda: Yes, always use this to neutralize. When you're ready to stop the peel, simply take the baking soda and apply gently all over face. This is what I do and immediately, I feel tingly/slight burning sensation. I can literally see the reaction of the baking soda/acid. Then I rinse entire face/neck with cold water. Some people also mix baking soda with water in a bowl and use that to wash their face. It doesn't really matter.

Bottom line: After peel, use baking soda/cold water to neutralize/wash. Gently pat dry. Apply oil or some type of moisturizer that does NOT have any acid/vitamin c/retinol in it. Of course, do the peels in the evening/night.

Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

Thanx a lot for so much detailssss

so I did my patch test on jaw line yesterday and nothing happened I kept it for 1 min only .
Today I did my actual peel on face and neck . It did sting for like 20 secs may be and then it stopped and few areas like my nose and sides got a little pink but with no irritation so I kept it for. 5 mins and then I put baking soda and rinsed it cold water followed by rosehip oil ..

On instructions It said u can keep it for 3-7 mins. I hope everything is ok..
we'll right after peel nothing felt different until I applied rosehip and my skin felt smoooooth . While I was applying my skin really felt very smooth ,I really look forward to apply it next time and see results..

Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

^ I’m glad the first LA peel went well! :biggthumb: I have kept the 40% LA peel on my face/neck up to 15 minutes without any problem. The pink is fine…you should neutralize as soon as you see that pink turning whitish.

Give your face 2 weeks to heal from this. Remember, even if it looks “normal”, your skin needs to heal on a cellular level that won’t be visible to the naked eye. In 2 weeks, try it again and see if you can go up to 7-8 minutes. Of course, don’t forget the sunscreen.

Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

Oh wow .. 15 mins.. How long can I put it on my skin? Is there any limitation?
2 weeks… Can i do it next week? If my skin is properly healed?
Yup I , using sunscreen and for. Tomorrow I’ll be using vitamin c again..

paheli . Do u have any idea where can I buy pure rosehip and witch hazel in us? I bought both of them from naturally thinking which stoppit recommended , but I don’t wanna pay $30 shipping again

Re: Peels (a lot of questions)

  1. I’ve never heard of a “limit” but I’ve just never kept it longer for 15. To be honest, I think there is a saturation point and it’s not like the skin is going to get better results if you keep it on for 30 minutes.

  2. If after a week, your skin is not dry at all and if you think it can handle another peel…then sure…you can do it after a week.

I’m posting link to the site where I buy all my oils from below along with a picture of the witch hazel toner I use. The toner is also sold at Wal-Mart and Wal-greens.
