PCB warns Yousuf against ICL

PCB warns Yousuf against ICL

Mohammad Yousuf, who is involved in arbitration proceedings with the ICL, faces a life ban if he joins the unofficial league, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said.

Re: PCB warns Yousuf against ICL

Mohd Yousuf is a holy, devout and a deeply religious man. Such people do not run after "materialistic" gains. But it looks as if he is willing to ditch Pakistan for the ICL dollars (since the Indian court has banned him from raking in IPL dollars).

Something wrong with this picture.

You may consider yourself an alim, but ure not. No holy devout and deeply religious man is required or expected to NOT earn money. Even the Prophet Mohamad pbuh himself was a succesfull merchant at one time in his life. In Islam, deen and duniya go together.

Re: PCB warns Yousuf against ICL

^Thanks for the clarification. In Hinduism/Buddhism - "detachment" is the key to spiritual nirvana.

Who's to say that cricketers who do not have beards or who do not (choose to) come out in the open when religion is involved are not devout Muslims. Who are we to judge anyone from their appearance and looks.

As for Yousuf ditching Pakistan, there was a long and heated discussion on it when he refused to join the team during Ramadan for CT, which in the end got to nowhere and Pakistan was left with no cricket.

Yusi isnt buddhist yar :)

Btw, some of the kingpin tableeghiz have the best businesses in Pakistan, take for instance Junaid Jamshed.

Was that last year? dayom, time flies!

Being devout and religious doesn't prevent you from making a living, as long as you're not doing anything illegal. Playing the "patriotic" and "ditching his country" card is just plain maliciousl. None of the ICL players have declined the represent their countries, it is the respective boards who have decided to ban the players.

Besides, where does it say Yousaf wants to play for ICL? He's being compensated by IPL whether he plays there or not, so the money motive doesn't even come into the picture.

Nopes, just few months ago

Really ? Would you point me to a reliable source for this information.

And btw, there has been several news stories (including in your venerated Dawn) that Md Yousuf is planning to play for ICL...hence the warning from the PCB.

The link in the very first post. Even at the time of the IPL auction, it was widely reported that IPL would pay Yousuf his reserve price of $350,000.

^ Hmmm....its not absolutely clear from the article that the IPL actually paid him $350,000 uskaa dil rakhne ke liyee (after he was prevented from playing by the ICL)*....*hard to believe that they would hand him so much money just like that (he wasn't even bought by any team). Even assuming so, why does Md Yousuf now want to play for ICL ? There has to be money at stake (for example he may be liable for a monetary fine since he reneged on his ICL contract).

Re: PCB warns Yousuf against ICL

^^ Quit you job, man. Money is evil.

why does money have to be the only motive ma man... you seem to be a McGregor Theory X adherent :)... the article pretty clearly points out Yousuf's discontent over not being selected once again for a T20 series and this may have renewed his disdain for the nonsensical PCB flip-flop... and the ICL controversy came up again as a result. Originally, he had also opted for the ICL when he wasn't selected for the T20 World Cup.

Source is the first post but most probably you did not read it as you were too busy writing the post bringing in religion into discussion without any reason

btw cricininfo news says that he was given his starting bid US$350,000 from IPL …

Cricinfo - PCB warns Yousuf against ICL

He is more at waters with PCB coz he has been dropped from up coming T20 squad and If I can recall it correctly, that was the reason to join ICL for the first time too …

Re: PCB warns Yousuf against ICL

Abey D6C, I did read the article after Brahmachari jee pointed me in that direction.

^w*oh kyaa hai mere bhai ?*

Yousuf’s complaints totally unwarranted, says PCB (DAWN - Sport; September 20, 2008)

ISLAMABAD, Sept 19: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has slammed star batsman Mohammad Yousuf for his querying of selectors and threats to quit if he is continually left out of the national Twenty20 team.

Yousuf is regarded as one of the world’s leading one-day batsmen, but has played only one international Twenty20 match and was considered only an outside chance of being chosen for the four-nation Twenty20 tournament in Canada next month.

“On the face of it, it looks a hypothetical comment and it’s totally unwarranted,” PCB spokesman Mansoor Suhail said on Friday, adding that Yousuf should not attempt to pre-empt selection. “There is no denying the fact that he is a great batsman, but he has acted in haste by criticizing the selection process.”

Yousuf was quoted in a leading Urdu-language newspaper on Friday as saying that, “My name comes in the first playing 11, what to talk about 15. Pakistan will suffer the most if the selectors dropped me. If I’ll be dropped … it will be a big shock to me.”

Yousuf said that if Pakistan’s three former captains —Inzamam-ul-Haq, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis — endorsed the decision of selectors of ignoring him for Twenty20 cricket then he would consider retirement. “If there is someone else who can bat better than me I am willing to quit cricket,” he said.

Pakistan are scheduled to play in the four-nation Twenty20 tournament in Toronto next month against Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Canada. The squad was yet to be selected.

Yousuf was dropped from the Pakistan team that played in the final of last year’s inaugural World Twenty20 tournament in South Africa.

He has scored 9,242 runs in 269 One-day Internationals and was shortlisted for the year’s best ODI player, but the right-handed batsman’s only Twenty20 international was against England in 2006 in which he scored run-a-ball 20.

Yousuf’s mediocre fielding had been cited as a factor in his Twenty20 non-selection, but the 34-year-old said, “I just want to ask them how many Jonty Rhodes are there in the Pakistan team?”.

Pakistan’s leading players will compete in the National Twenty20 tournament, starting from Oct. 4 in Lahore and the selectors would use the event to assess players before naming the squad for Toronto.

Yousuf will lead Lahore Lions in the tournament, but was not happy that it should be treated as an audition. “It’s not a test case for me,” he said. “After representing Pakistan for 11 years … I just want to make it clear that I am not playing (in the national Twenty20) to prove my abilities to anyone.”—AP

Re: PCB warns Yousuf against ICL

^Koyee is insaan ko bataaye ki that the guy who was selected in his place - Misbah-ul-Haq more than justified his spot and has since become the Vice-kaptaan.

Also from the above news story :
