The PCB has responded to Shahid Afridi’s retirement by putting together a showcause notice detailing several breaches of the code of conduct, which he will eventually be expected to respond to. A day after Afridi’s outburst against the administration on TV, and his decision to not play international cricket under this board, PCB chairman Ijaz Butt said he was “disappointed” by the remarks and that the “retirement” was not an issue at all.

“It was disappointing to hear what he said,” Butt told ESPNcricinfo, “and it wasn’t correct or true. It was wrong of him to do that. If he doesn’t want to play under this administration, then he’s welcome. We’ve detailed several instances where he has breached the code of conduct and will issue a showcause notice to him, which he has seven days to respond to.

Senior board officials spent much of the day in a budget meeting, but the issue of Afridi was a live one throughout. The board has taken legal advice on its options and there has been talk of withdrawing the NOCs given to Afridi for a T20 stint with Hampshire, as well as possibly not issuing him one for participation in the upcoming Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL).

There might also be repercussions on his central contract, in which he is currently in the top ‘A’ category. The announcement of retirement itself, if not made to the board first, is a breach of the code of conduct. If the contract is suspended, as is the case in retirements, then all the benefits and privileges due to a player are also held in abeyance, which could lead to a withdrawal of the NOCs.

A press release is due to be issued shortly by the board in which the details of the breaches will be made clear as well as what further action may be taken.

Re: PCB tamasha - PCB plans action against Afridi -

I know it's wrong to think this way but I have increasingly started to believe that the only way we will ever get rid of Butt is by him dying.

Re: PCB tamasha - PCB plans action against Afridi -

Don’t worry, if he is banned from all sorts of cricket in Pakistan and revoked his NOC’s for SCL, etc he still has a chance to come on international Stage…Guess what?

Afridi’s interview .. must watch!!

I feel bad for him!!! stupid jahal buttttttt

Re: PCB tamasha - PCB plans action against Afridi -

I expect government officials to intervene soon and some kind of sense will be put into PCB's heads.

I think Afridi made a valid point in media today that its not about the captaincy, its about the way it was handled. Even guys like Yousuf who didnt win any single match duriing their captaincy werent removed like this. If they wanted to remove him, so be it but there is a way to do things and PCB, oh well. Afridi's retirement is once again too emotional but jub ghusa thunda ho jayega dono parties ka tu sulah bhi ho jayegi.

I seriously hope Afridi sticks to his decision and doess NOT play under Butt so that someone take some serous action against Butt.

Re: PCB tamasha - PCB plans action against Afridi -

True That

He will be back, mark my words…He has avoided (because his dad was SICK…Now we know how much truth was in that excuse for NOT serving Pak) the testing conditions of Ireland for his batting form and his unimpressive bowling that needs either tailer made conditions or a weak opposition …The reason I say he will be back is because he knows that Pak’s next International assignment is going to be with ZIM and possibly with SL, and Afridi has thrived on playing against teams like such…This is an ideal opportunity for him to grab some wickets and score some runs on non bouncy/challenging wickets…against ZIM and SL…this is the scenario, Jisss Main Afridi Bhi SHeeeyr Hey!

This is what asked when Saby justified Afridi’s intent of skipping IRELAND series by saying that he needed a rest.

So, rest (which he doesnt even deserve…read my above quote) is only for Pak duties and not from Hampshire duties???

I guess someone told them that one of them is about to get a place in Guinness Book Of Records, but they forgot to tell them that one will be for retiring/un-retiring while other for taking most number of idiotic steps by a cricket body/chairman.... or may be they want to prove who is more idiot.

Re: PCB tamasha - PCB plans action against Afridi -

Of course it was all about how he was treated .......i mean come 2 months ago he was the Hero of our nation.......Took our team into the Semis fought till the end and removing him from captaincy like this is harsh to him .....

Every story has two sides – be it a news item, a film or a book you are reading. Pakistan’s sacked captain and ‘former’ all-rounder Shahid Afridi is a combo with all three features. He is a news item waiting to be covered, a film with enough twists and turns than a Hollywood flick and a book that unravels a new mystery on each page.

Let me make myself clear, I am a Shahid Afridi-fan. No batsman can hit fastest centuries like he did. No one can bamboozle batsmen the way he does with the ball. He used to be a class act as a skipper since he single-handedly took a tooti phooti team into the semi finals of the World Cup. But his recent decisions have only made me look for an alternative because frankly, he doesn’t make sense. Just like his recent batting, he hits the ball without thinking of the outcome. Just like his bowling, he delivers a faster one when the wicket-keeper is standing up, near the stumps. And just like his captaincy, he makes bold decisions with thinking of the consequences.

He has retired twice from test cricket so his ‘first’ retirement from the limited overs game shouldn’t be taken seriously. He says he wants to play county cricket without realizing that the board can cancel all NOCs granted to him (and newsflash … they have just done that!). He claims he will never play cricket under the current regime, yet he doesn’t realize what he will write in response to the show cause notice that has been sent to him. He may have taken more than 300 wickets in one day matches and scored more than 6000 runs but his bowling average is over 30, and batting average stays below 25 (when it should be the other way round!).

He is a great player but nobody likes a rat. The board blames Shahid Afridi is the weak link in its information desk as he allegedly leaks sensitive information to the media to stay ‘in’ with his journalist friends. They may not be right, but Shahid Afridi has to answer that himself as that’s one of the reasons why he was sacked as captain.

He may be a great cricketer but then, his dismissals in last few innings raise eyebrows to his commitment as a batsman. He may present himself with a halo over his head but he is no saint. No other cricketer has been saved back and forth by the board than him (after Shoaib Akhtar, may be). Afridi was fined and banned for damaging the pitch during a test match against England, he hit a spectator with the bat in South Africa during an international match, he foul-mouthed with players most notably from India when they played against each other and – the best of all – chewed the ball in a one-day match against Australia in order to make the ball move.

All these incidents happened after he had made a name for himself in Test and one day arena, and also become a regular part of the team. Sadly, his supporters fail to realize that the damage he has done to his country is far more than the wickets he has taken, the runs he has scored and the catches he has held on to. Or does the verdict hang in balance? It’s up to you to decide.
