Moin Khan, the former Pakistan captain and wicketkeeper, has been appointed the chief selector of the Pakistan national team. The PCB announced that Moin will replace former chief selector Iqbal Qasim but said that the rest of the selection committee will continue under the new leadership. Qasim had decided not to renew his contract with the PCB earlier this month.
“It is an honour and a privilege to be offered the position of chairman of national selection committee - a position held by many greats in the past and most recently by legendary Iqbal Qasim,” Moin said. “I have accepted this as a challenge and I am glad that PCB and my own vision corresponds in terms of preparing a pool of talented cricketers who can mount an effective challenge in the 2015 World Cup.”
Moin, who met with PCB chairman Najam Sethi on Monday, made his Test debut against West Indies in 1990 and went on to lead the team in 13 Tests. He played his last Test in 2004, ending his 69-match career with 2741 runs. His 147 wicketkeeping dismissals are third in the list of Pakistan wicketkeepers behind Wasim Bari and Kamran Akmal.
Moin also represented Pakistan in 219 ODIs and is the most successful wicketkeeper for Pakistan in ODIs with 287 dismissals.

Great decision! The sworn enemy of the coach and the captain is now the chief selector. If we already had not enogh of the cold war between Misbah and Hafeez, the PCB has now hanged another sword on the team setup.
This is what happens when non-professionals run the show. Next time we should have Javed Sheikh as the PCB chairman.

On a serious note most people want deserving selections, whether they are from Karachi or Lahore. Hope he selects every player on merit and gives youngsters more chance.
Moin was known as a fighter during his playing days. I really hope he will select players with the same mentality.

Guys....lets not always think of changes as negative...if NS would have picked someone from punjab, e.g., Aamir Sohail, Abdul Qadir etc etc blah blah....then we all would have said NS c/o Noras is being biased and selecting people from punjab etc etc..
Moin himself was a good cricketer, a fighter and had a do or die attitude...

Accountability requires opposing opinions to be present as well. If CS would be 100% aligned to captain and coach then there would be no check and balance.

Moin was my favourite player as well, probably the best Pak w/k in ODIs. Just hope he selects deserving players. I want to see the best players picked for the respective squads regardless of where they are from.

One thing for sure....Lala's position might be secure for some time now ..at least until 2015.
Lala's position was always secure until 2015 esp. since Razzaq is currently out of favour with everyone & Hammad has yet to cement his place in the side. I always knew that Afridi would be back after this short break. It is Hafeez and Asad's places that are under the cosh. Both have done nothing of note with the bat of late. Asad probably belongs in test cricket not ODIs (cf. Azhar). And unless Hafeez starts showing consistency with the bat, I don't feel he's the right person to lead us in 2015 World Cup. He can't just be in the side as a part-time spinner

Yes all those chief selectors from Karachi have been so prejudiced. Just look at the team selection in last couple of years. So many non-deserving players from Karachi in the team given such long runs for years despite repeated failures, at times almost the entire team is from Karachi with only one or two players from Lahore. This ethnic injustice have to stop now and no players from Karachi should be allowed to play in team Pakistan to make up for what has been going on.

i’ve heard on the news that PCB is gonna go bancrupt soon if new money is not injected by the feds. they have ONLY 2 arab rupees left…they are planning to let hundreds of employees go.
it may be just a PLOY to get some extra cash or the corruption may have eaten up a big chunk of the funding.
