Re: PCB had planned to quash rising ‘mullaism’ within team
Isn't it irony, M. Yousef gave credit to religion last year when his form with the willow was superb and for the team.....well all I will say is they are trying to find excuses, just coz they got ejected in the first round of WC' 07.
Its a sorry state that the religion is tossed around like a googly. :(
Re: PCB had planned to quash rising ‘mullaism’ within team
Seriously, this is over the top (the criticism). This is a sign that qiyama is near.
Saying that you should play 100% and it's your job and your allowed to pray 5 times a day is one thing...
BUT saying that it is the fault of religion that the team lost is just over the top. Only idiots would say that.
well he definitely didnt say it is the fault of the religion, he said it is the preaching and over emphasis on religion and the bias of some players to the religious practices of others...
Re: PCB had planned to quash rising ‘mullaism’ within team
PCB, as always, acts too little too late. A cricket team is supposed to be a professional sports team, not a tableeghi jamaat. The growing influx of tableeghis started initially with Saeed Anwar's last few playing days from 2001-2003, and then increased with Inzamam's reign from 2004-2007. During this period, the "beards" have grown alarmingly, from Inzamam, to Yousef, Afridi, Rana Naveed, Shabbir Ahmed, Mushtaq Ahmed, etc. Where was the PCB then? Because the results were okay, Shahryar Khan and Nasim Ashraf kept their mouths shut, and came out with half-assed statements like "religion binds them together"? Hello....are you running a Jamaat, a Madrassah or a International cricket team?
The PCB was too weak an incompetent to act when it should have, and now we have a Tableeghi team, that doesent perform, thinks winning and losing is all upto God - and they can themselves get away without any effort and commitment, instead of practicing they go visit mosques to deliver lectures, and pray in the gallery of an aircraft. They`re lucky they were not onboard an American or Canadian airline, otherwise they would have and SHOULD have been off-loaded immediately.
If the PCB wants to 'quash' the mullaism then it needs to clearly tell the players that they must choose whether they are professional cricketers or tableeghis....if they want to spread and preach religion, then they should leave the team and go about doing whatever they want. It's ridiculous that its taken so long for the PCB to act....

I agree with your other statements, but what is wrong with praying in an aircraft? If you are on a flight that takes several hours, you sometimes don't have any other option, because the timing doesn't allow you to perform that particular Salah on the ground.
Re: PCB had planned to quash rising ‘mullaism’ within team
You can pray on the seat...as most people do. Why would you go into the gallery, and make it a spectacle? I've been on flight back and forth from North America and Pakistan and I've never seen anyone pull something like that..Even the Maulvis wouldnt do it.
Religion is something between you and your maker...why would you want to make it a public spectacle by getting a jamaat together and taking over the gallery on a commericial flight? That just smacks of making a public statement which they have no business doing.......
Re: PCB had planned to quash rising ‘mullaism’ within team
I know many people who are (or seem) very religious and all but they are some of the most unreliable, narrow-minded, selfish and dishonest (claiming illegal benefits from the state, always looking for short-cuts in life etc.) people I know!:)
Like myself !:(
I'm not the same internally as looked externally...:D

Ok, I think I misunderstood you. It looked as if you had a problem with praying on a plane altogether. => I fully agree with your complete statement above.
Apart from Saudi Airlines (which has a dedicated prayer area on board) I haven't seen people praying outside their seats either nor have I prayed outside my seat myself on long-haul flights.

Many people pray standing up, usually they ask if they can pray in the back where the employees are.

Signs of qiyama are appearing since the first century hijra - even some sahabas saw signs of qiyama when muslims (sahabas) killed each others in siffain and jamal!
Re: PCB had planned to quash rising ‘mullaism’ within team
I dont think PCB will be able to do anything about all this as there is no issue. The fact is religion and tableeghi activities are good. Atleast the team members are not caught drinking and using drugs as it happened in Carrabiens in 1990's.
The fact that Mr. PJ (paji) Mir is highlighted all this is that he must have felt insecured at that moment in time. What if v r off loaded or thrown out of the plane or arrested when we reach London. And also associated with team which looks more like Te rro rist dont feel good to him.
And we all know that paji mir has developed a habbit of staying in the news. All this has probably earned him more fame then he ever would have got out from him media career. (badnam hongay to kiya naam na hoga)
Plus I really appreciate Pakistan team for offering salat with jammat on board. It has nothing do to with losing two matches on two bad days.
Also we must think that what is making these rich players, known worldwide turn to religion ? ?
I meet with Saqlian in Manchester last year when he was on nusrat for jammat from khi which included Saeed Anwar and JJ. I heard saqlain saying that please dont waste ur life the way we did. We have tested everything but the success lies in Deen.
Re: PCB had planned to quash rising ‘mullaism’ within team
when Pakistan were winning last year it was attributed to a large extent to religion. by non-religious people like Woolmer and Shoaib. There was an “atmosphere of forgiveness”, team spirit etc etc.
It has to do with being professional, and performing well bus. He can start every interview with “First of all thanks to Lucifer” for all I care aside from that.
Cultish behaviour can occur for any reason, and all of them are equally bad reasons.
The motivation of PCB/Naseem Ashraf unfortunately is not just how it has impacted performance. It is pushing the administration’s enlightened moderation philosophy onto the cricket team which they see as ambassadors first, cricketers second. Musharraf I remember asked the team to tone down the religion much before Pakistan started losing to everyone. Now since unprofessionalism is a huge and very valid issue, they are washing their hands in the running Ganga.

Please look! I was right! Islam does not allow lahv-o-lahab! Even does not allow to laugh!
Re: PCB had planned to quash rising ‘mullaism’ within team
No other team goes as over-board as the Pakistanis when it comes to religion. No one died and left these guys as the 'great Muslim hopes'. Just play the game for what is - a GAME. And keep your religion to the confines of your private life. No one needs a religious lesson or a show from a bunch of cricketers who are paid to play a GAME...not to spread Islam or Islamic practices. And those people who are talking about "Deen" and cricketers setting an example for Muslims and so on - kindly go to your mosque. Leave the cricket team to play cricket.
