I think the match referee missed another violation committed by Shahid. He was sledging Moahammad Kaif also.
Looks like ICC initiated the complaint. But, I have seen a lot more sledging by other players that went un-noticed. For example, when Chris Cairns got out against Aus, Ponting rushed towards him and said something. Cairns then stopped by Umpire Bucknor on his way to pavillion and said something. WHy did that go without reprimandation?
Poor Shahid, he is a die hard cricketer and gets punished because PCB is taking this opportunity to look responsible. The fact of the matter is that PCB is in shambles right now because of it's own policies in selection of the team and what not.

You have a point FunGuy and I agree. They banned him for the whole tournament? When Lehmen said something racist, he was only banned for like 3 or 4 games. And Afridi got banned for the whole tournament and 50 percent of his match fees. I think thats just a ridiculous decison by the PCB. When you're losing or having a bad day, everyone swear, even I swear when Im frustrated. Anyway, PCB is jus looking to kick out players since oldies like Waqar, Rashid, Wasim won't retire.
afridi should be out of the team.the slediging thing is just an excuse because everone sledges and the pakistani team is no exception.i think the pcb wanted to punish him for his lousy attitude and performances so they are teaching him a lesson by banning him
good work
he should never play for pakistan again

If people are going to talk about who performed good or bad in the tournament than I think Afridi was one of the better performers, his performance in the field was exceptional.
Us Pakistanis only seem to look at players when they bat or bowl but forget about fielding which I think is important as batting and bowling, I remember Johnty Rhodes was first brought into the side specially as a fielder and then he later developed as a quality batsman in the later part of this career.
If PCB are booting him out for bad performance than shame on them but if he is banned for sledging than no worries.
Very well Said Umair, and fully agreed
:k:
The simple fact is, every single team sledges; it's a part of the game.
From there, there really are just two simple possible scenarios that come up in this issue. Either let the everyday sledging go unnoticed (except for racist comments), or if you really wanna be strict about it, then have the ICC appoint a neutral committie that takes care of every single issue (regardless of significance) and crack down on the offenders.
Irresponsible as this may sound, the respective boards should be left out of it, as cases like the current one come up. Where you have players from some countries being penalized for everyday comments because some crybabies complained, and on the flip side boards like the Aussies are gonna do jack no matter how many many mothers and sisters are insulted out in the middle. (except glaring racist lehmann-type comments, which then of course, just become a PR issue).
I dint see the program on Geo but according to my friend, when Tauqeer Zia was asked if he used to specify the lineup and order of the Pakistani side before every match thru telephone in the WC, he dint deny it outright but laughed the matter away. The whole nation is crying and this SOB doesnt give a damn. If thats true than its no wonder that the Pakistani team performed so badly. I mean how can i guy sitting oceans away be aware of pitch conditions, etc in order to decide the lineup. This seems to be a conspiracy as none of the players had any say before the matches.
I feel sorry for the SL and SA bowlers.. now they have to take 10 wickets instead of 9 because Afridi just gifts his wicket.
People are very unfair with afridi
Remember he was originally not selected as a batsman but was in fact a bowler
As a bowler he played decently throughout the world cup, and against India was likely our best bowler
If he bowls, and then bats 7th or 8th for us he's not so bad.
If they play him as an opening batsman then how can you blame him for his failure when that is not relaly his position
The sledging charge is a little bit ridiculous when you consier all the things that go on anyway,,,

Our batting lineup has struggled throughout the WC. And he has been positioned as "specialist batsmen" throughout. When our batting lineup is so bad in shape, we can NOT afford a spot in team for "specialist fielder".

Like I mentioned before, fielding is just as important as batting or bowling. Just like how our batting is bad now days, our fielding is the same as well. Catches win matches, and we need a specialist fielder in the team, if other so called specialist batsman couldn't get the job done then why depend on Afridi.

I cant belive that you are still backing Afridi. :)
I thought getting rid fo Afridi is the best output of Pakistan's pathetic performance in worldcup.

I don't know how much a single "specialist fielder" can achieve, compared to a specialist batsmen.... anyone knows? I think all the players in team must be trained hardly for fielding while staying specialist batsmen/bowler/keeper.

And lets not forget the reply from Andy Symonds, who came down the pitch to reply to Waqar.
Who in the world is stupid enough to bowl beamers on purpose, it was an honest mistake from Waqar.

and waqar too replied with "f*** off". :D

When you have guys like Inzi, Anwar, Wasim, Waqar, Razzaq, its close to impossible to make them better fielders but Afridi has done some very good fielding the past, he took an amazing catch of Sehwag against India, and he has been fielding at the catcher position for a while and has done a great job.
In 92, Johnty Rhodes was the only above average fielder in the team, and he won his teams many matches by taking some crucial catches.
