PC broken

k about 2 weeks ago my pc randomly started to turn on and off automatically
i thought it was windows problem but later found out it wasnt cuz without even booting in windows (in bios) it still kept doing the same.
So i took it to the repair shop, the guy said the PSU is messed up hence i shud get a new one. So i tell him to install one for me and he does, the problem still continues even with the replacement PSU. Then a little thingy happened my graphics card (ati) stopped working all of a sudden. The guy tells me that the graphics card had problems which was causing the computer to restart again and again. So i take out the graphics card and plug in the motherboards built in graphics card and computer starts up but the prroblem of restarting randomly still there :smack:

sothe guy says Ram is the culprit, i told him to chk it with a different ram stick. Still the problem is there :bummer:
now today he said he’ll look at the motherboard and see if its messed up.
if any of you guys have any idea what might be wrong please tell
have tried everything reset bios, reinstalled new battery in bios.
the only 2 things that could be messed up are the procesor or motherboard
and i think processor is fine cuz if that wasbroken the pc wouldnt start at all.
or can there be some problem with harddrive?

Re: PC broken

I think your BIOS is messed up. Udate that.

Re: PC broken

Check the load on the electric socket. Sometimes you have connected fridge or any other electric appliance that trip time to time.

I know this thing started happening now but you should know better what electricity load is on the socket you have connected PC with.

Re: PC broken

@ TLK - what if it shuts down during the update, i'll give it a go since i think i m gonna need a new one anyways.

@ aaho, nah i tried in many sockets, even in the pc repair shop it keeps doing it :(

Re: PC broken

Have you checked the processor's fan speed? is it sink / cooler under the fan clean?

sometime due to dust on that cooler processor heats up and restarts many times and and this restart time then keeps reducing I mean it restarts again and again..

or have you check with any built in sensor that is controlled by bios and in bios you can see the processor temperature. or my using a fan speed check by using some fan speed testing software?

if the temperature of processor is around 28-35 C then its nice though it can also go till 50 C but more than than or around that is not good.

Over heating of processor can also be a reason. I mean fan problem

or it can be at the last mobo problem as there are resistors along with the processor that mostly get leak or they get some internal problem.

all of the above points are checked
this last one is probably the one, that guy will look into it today hopefully get it fixed
or i'll just buy a new motherboard :)

Re: PC broken

^Did you get a branded PSU or a Chinese PSU? Chinese PSUs keep failing, one time, 2 PSUs failed during the same month for me.

Re: PC broken

For now i gave his PSU back and put my own back in (my own is Antec PSU which came with the case)
and turns out the motherboard is messed up and i need a replacement
now will buy one next year lolz i m broke atm :S

Re: PC broken

which mobo are u using. processor details (exacet no.) n no. of fans? do u use it in air conditioned environment???

Re: PC broken

motherboard - Asus p5kpl-vm
Processor - intel dual core e5200 (had it overclocked to 3.25 ghz)
1 gb ram, no extra fans, just the default heatsink
and temps were pretty good, never went past 60degrees(even on 100%load) 45 average which is good enuff.
and ATI 3870, i hope it isnt fried as i havent checked it with a different motherboard yet.

Re: PC broken

^ how old is the system. everything seems fine to me. is ur ram overclockable or does it have one of the normal "Value" brand tag. cud be the capacitors on the motherboards. that often fail after one year and lead to unstable system behavior. but Asus motherboards now come with JIS capacitors that are heat resistant. does ur mobo have those? do u have 500-400w PSU? anyways nothing definite can be said. overclocking can be blamed for the damage. :(

Re: PC broken

yeah i guess so, i've had this pc for about a year now. Yes the capacitors are the ones that're broken cuz the guy told me. He said he could fix it if the capacitors were replaceble but unfortunately they're not. PSU wasi think 380 watts which is okay enuff and had my graphics card running for a year now. i lowered the ram frequency to 667 from 800 so they wont go burning on me, they were regular cheap kingston value ram.
