They would probably have shipped him off to Guantanamo Bay under the pretext of inciting terror and it would have been hailed as yet another victory on the “war on terror”

The same media never put it on when a muslim or muslim representative group condemns any acts againt civillians. Go ahead and rant boys, look how long I have been around here, and assure yourself I have heard all this breathless hysteria before.
Here are some really hard facts that you need to come to grips with.
1) Long before 9/11 OBL issued his Fatwa using the name of YOUR religion. He bombed the Cole, he bombed two embassies, he attacked Khobar Towers. He declared War on the US, and declared that it was very Islamic to kill ANYONE, including innocents. He is citing your religion, using your relgion and hijacking your religion. There is nothing I can do about this.
2) The bombings and murder of innocents continues. Couple hundred in Madrid, fifty in London, more in Bali, never mind a whole bunch in Turkey, Morroco, Egypt. Those things are sort of hard to ignore.
3) The entire world believes Muslims are doing these things. Not every Muslim, but Muslims. Because the murderers appear in civilian clothes, it is hard to distinguish the bad Muslims from the good Muslims. Please provide us with a way to tell those with murderous intent, and we will happily not suspect all of you. Short of the miraculous ability to tell good men from evil men, suspicions will be aroused because no country like it's citizens killed. To the rest of the world your denial looks stupid.
4) Are innocent Muslims falsely accused? Sure. That is human nature. See the part above about not wanting to be killed. If you want to do something about it, go find OBL and all of his minions and kill them yourself. Make them outcasts within your religion. Currently he is not surviving without significant help and protections from other Muslims. The media is not your problem. The Pat Robertsons of the world are not your problem. Those things are symptoms of a much larger problem. OBL WANTED to ignite a war between Muslims and the West. He got it.
5) Ultimately I am beginning to think that we are overreacting to terrorism. We are simply going to have to accept that this barbaric subculture exists. Short of an attack by WMDs, they can really only kill a small number of people. Now that we know what they are capable of, we will continue to hunt them down, and squish them like bugs. Even permissive England is starting to deport. One more attack and the push will become stronger. It is in your best interest to be part of the the solution, or to at least understand the solution.
The real damage will be to Muslims countries. What western company wants to set up a new factory in Pakistan, when they can do it in China or India with out the security worries? Imagine some executive trying to defend his decision to open a new semiconductor fab in Pakistan. What does he say when some board member asks him if he can guarantee the security of the site and the staff? Why accept Pakistani Students to our Universities when Indian Students are just as bright, and have less security risk? Is this rational? See the part above about not wanting to be killed. Is this fair? No. Who ever told you the world was fair? Who will want to invest money in Muslim countries when the entire Muslim world is in convulsions? Invest in Brazil, or Russia with its oil, or Japan or Singapore.
The damage to Muslims is not some street incident where racist insults are hurled. The Macro damage is that Muslim countries will find it harder and harder to compete with India and China for jobs in the world economy. That is the reality of todays situation. You may deny it, but that is what is happening. You may not like it, you may disagree with it, you may rant against it, but it is our there and you must deal with it.
