A long time a go, I worked on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. There was a lobbying group for the elderly in North Dakota call the 100,000 Voices or some such thing. They were quite powerful in terms of getting access to the politicians of North Dakota. When it came time to register thier Political Action Committee (PAC) it was revealed that they only had 7,000 members, and less than 1,000 actually contributed. Their claims of importance were a major politcal triumph however and they were very effective in working thier agenda. It turns out that 100,000 represented the total number of elderly in the entire state, not their membership…
Now your paranoia at Pat Robertson is almost too funny. At the peak of his existance in 1988, he ran in the Iowa caucuses and came in second, and did not have the cash to make a run beyond that. His popularity peaked at that point. Why would you think that he represents even a fraction of a percent of the 70 Million of the “Evangelicals”?
And let me tell you something about the “Evangelicals”. If you laid the social agenda of “Evangelicals” next to that of Muslims they would be identical. They are against drugs, alcohol, abortion, teenage pregnancy, and they are pro worship. Most are genuinely nice people. Now if you think that they are idiots because they voted en masse for Bush, then you are entitled. But your paranoia is almost comical.

Off course it is not needed to answer by anyone what is expected but the questioner was pointing out to those by not completing it…and said the “double standard” afterward..(but anyway you would not get it)…you had one sided mind of bashing Pakistan.

^^ At its peak Roberstons organization claims members of 7 mil. The viewership of the 700 Club is around 800,000. Most are like my old aunties, who think he is cute and nice and comforting. Robertson is an albatross, and is easy to kick around, but he lost his importance as a national figure nearly 20 years ago. By the way, he PAYS the stations to broadcast his show, just like a big infomercial. He is not paid for his content. His fatwas are pretty impotent.

While I disagree with lussi on how influential Robertson is I disagree just as much with OG who is dismissing him with almost nil influence. Robertson has political ties and can organize well, he has the following and the money to do so. Look at the whole Terri Schaivo fiscal, who do you think made that into a circus? The Muslim threat is played over and over again while the Christian right creeping into U.S. politics is ignored.

UTD, Robertson has so many 10 foot pole marks all over him it is silly. Every organization with a little money has some access, and some clout. But are Robertsons people actually considering voting for Kerry? I think not. Robertson is a marginal player these days who occasionally get appeased, and that is about it. Republican fundraising is not dependent on him, the Republican fund raising machine has dwarfed him.
He is about as influential as any dope with a tv show. That is to say that he may rant on some issue like Lou Dobbs rants on immigration and outsourcing, but if you don't like what he is saying, you change the channel. Robertson is a shell of his former past, and of no consequence on the national stage. He is, and has been a rather embarrassing appendage that sometimes draws so much fire from the left, that he should be completely jettisoned.
Rush Limbaugh is a far more influential Right Wing Media figure, and we all know he is a druggie.
