Passing out dried dates/chuwaray

after nikah…
Is it sunnah? I heard it from three people that it is but i cant find it anywhere. Anyone have the source? Oh and she also mentioned that it has to be from the guys side? Is it a saheeh hadith?

Re: Passing out dried dates/chuwaray/chouaray/chuware/choware

I am not sure about Sunnah. But they increase your metabolism!

Together with milk, they are a good food for the newly wed couple. Bohat purani rasam hia aur bohat peechay say chali aarahi hia! Pooranay logo ka burso ka tajarba shamil hia ismay!

Re: Passing out dried dates/chuwaray/chouaray/chuware/choware

I have wondered about this myself.
In our country it is almost a sin not to have dry dates at the nikah. So much so my wife to this day jokes with me that my parents only brought dry dates and not the nice packets fof sweets and dates that are common. lolz.

To answer your question:
Although I don't know of a formal sunnah that is prescribed, it is however known via authentic narrations that dates were served to those who attended Fatima RA's wedding with Ali RA.

From one source:
The Prophet himself performed the marriage ceremony. At the walimah. the guests were served with dates, figs and hais ( a mixture of dates and butter fat). A leading member of the Ansar donated a ram and others made offerings of grain.

If we search authentic ahadeeth we will find this InshAllah. I can't find the article citing a source but I know the writer only quotes from saheeh. We should check nonetheless.

However, its not like the Prophet SAW made this into a sunnah and encouraged the Sahabah to do.

It would be a permissible act so long as the normal "israf ul amal" or exaggeration of acts is not carried out.

Wallahu Alam. (Allah knows best)

^ My parents are exactly like that and so are so many people in this community. They are shocked to know that we are getting these things and not him. And my fiance and me dont know all these things so we in these past few days we have discovered alot. I would never make the poor guy sit there and put dried dates and a bunch of other stuff in lil bags and make em look all pretty :smack:

Hmmm so i guess its just tradition and i guess now it kinda makes sense why they want think the guy should bring it so bad even though i still dont see the harm in the girls family doing it.

No no…those things are sold as packets or you buy your own things and give to those home-based business women that do this type of work and they pack them for you at a cost.
