Passed my driving test

Salam…I am not sure whether this thread should be in life or sumwhere else but im psoting it here
I have just passed my driving test and i need to buy a car for myself…BUT i have no knowledge about cars. My parents said to me, you decide what car you want and we will buy it for you but i dont know how to decide which is a good car or what to look for when making a decision?
One of my friend said i shouldn’t buy a expensive car because i have just passed ma test and she thinks that i will surely do 10 accidents within a year lol
Can you guys suggest me something, what things should i look for before buying a car?
Thank you

Mitsubishi Lancer.... not automatic

Re: Passed my driving test

firstly, woohoo! congrats :)
i too am rubbish when it comes to cars but luckily my brothers are ace at that sort of thing- the little things i've picked up are have a budget which also factors in running costs and insurance. make a shortlist of cars you like with pros and cons and also list up things like average service costs, breakdown cover, etc. When you whittle a list down go to the dealers and take a test drive- even if you're buying from a second hand dealer the main dealers will be super nice to you if they think they might be getting a sale. Before buying anything check the paperwork and history and take a test drive with someone experienced who can also check the engine out for you and check for things like damage that might have been covered up.

Re: Passed my driving test

It acutally also Depends on where you live - like for some one living in UK , Nissan micra is good for a starter .... something with low insurance rating, excellent fuel economy and reliability

you can also try VW Polo or similar Seat Ibiza.

in a nutshell - Buy the type, make and model of car that best suits your needs and your pocket.

Re: Passed my driving test

When I bought my first car (I had my license for almost a decade), I went for Hyundai Sonata as it was economical for me (I had to pay for it), the insurance wasn't too much (plus my driving record was pretty clean until last year :S), it had good reviews, and it met all my basic needs. So maybe sit with your brother, discuss your needs, ask him for some decent options for yourself, and then shop around. All the best! Drive Safe!

And yes, in the family of Toyotas and Hondas, I am the first and probably the last non toyota/honda car owner. :D

Re: Passed my driving test

Why do you wanna get a brand new car, when you have just passed your DT....
You are new to the game and any thing can happen on the road...
Your reflexes and judgement needs a lot of practice behind wheels before you can actually dive in...
I'll say borrow a car..........LOL :)

Re: Passed my driving test

and it is a life and relationship issue!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Passed my driving test

certainly a life issue and if family is sitting during the drive, then it might become a relationship issue.... dad screaming "break lagao", ami reciting ayat ul kursi loudly, bhai getting annoyed "app uss ko gari chalanay dain" :D

Re: Passed my driving test

Vitz !

Re: Passed my driving test

They are letting too many women pass. Not good. :frowning: :hehe:

Buy a Hummer if in US, wear halmet, a body armour, do not drive with passenger for a year to not risk their lives. You are new to this art you know.

Anyhow, any car would do fine. Just consider your ability to buy. Automatic is better if possible so you do not have to think about gear change.
Buy a new one if you can. Old one may give you trouble or need work done every now and then. You need to focus on driving not the car troubles.
