Parveen Shakir (Urdu: پروین شاکر) (November 24, 1952 - December 26, 1994) was a Pakistani Urdu poet, teacher and a civil servant of the Government of Pakistan.Shakir started writing at an early age and published her first volume of poetry, Khushbu [Fragrance], to great acclaim, in 197…6.[2] She subsequently published other volumes of poetry - all well-received - including Inkaar [Refusal], Sad-barg [Marsh Marigold], Khud Kalami [Conversing with the Self] and Kaf-e-Aa’ina [The Edge of the Mirror], besides a collection of her newspaper columns, titled Gosha-e-Chashm [The Sight Corner], and was awarded one of Pakistan’s highest honours, the Pride of Performance for her outstanding contribution to literature.[2]Shakir died in 1994, as a result of a car accident while on her way to work. A very nice poet in our country whom we can always remember.

ku-ba-ku phail gai bat shanasai ki
us ne khushbu ki tarah meri pazirai ki
kaise kah dun k mujhe chor diya hai us ne
bat to sach hai magar bat hai ruswai ki
wo kahin bhi gaya lauta to mere pas aya
bas yahi bat hai achi mere harjai ki
tera pahlu tere dil ki tarah abad rahe
tujh pe guzre na qayamat shab-e-tanhai ki
** us ne jalti hui peshani pe jo hath rakha
ruh tak a gai tasir masihai ki

**a good and informative thread about her. i'm a traditionalist in urdu poetry and not very fond of "jadeed shaa'irii". i think she was grossly over-rated for one reason or the other. this is just my opinion and u may not have to agree.

the ghazal u've posted is a good one indeed. yeh Ghazal Altaf Husain "Hali" kii Ghazal kii tazmeen hai. iskii zamiin mujhe pasand hai. shukria share karne ke liye. i'll post some of her work that i lik [may not be many though] :)**
