Very few things I know about her. When she sat in her Masters in Urdu literature exam, one of the pieces of poetry that she had to write the article on was her own.
Suraaj Muneer, one of the emerging, and sort of established writers (mostly Punjabi literature I think) and scholar was deeply in love with her – but she was married to someone else. He died of a heart attack at a young age about ten years ago.
She died of cancer (don’t know what kind) few years ago. Very beautiful, talented lady, and a great poetess of our times. I’ve two albums of her poetry sung by various artists. Khud Kalami in a cassette form, and a recently purchased “Mehfil-ay Pazeeraaee” that’s solely sung by Tina Saani. Both are two of my most favorite albums of all times. Here goes a nazm sung by Tina Saani from “Mehfal-ay Pazeeraaee”. I’d upload it in voice gallarly sometime soon.
Please share your tid bits that you know of on her life.

Yup the accident was at the intersection of the PIMS road and the zero point wali road, close to blue area.
I'll see if I can add anything worthwhile to your thread Romeo. Trying...
One of the things I've noticed about Parveen Shakir's poetry that she's always very gender-specific in expressing herself. With a dominant male poet history in our country, it stands out. qualifiers like "chalti gayee", "daikhtee hooN", "karooN gee" in first person forms are quite in abundance. This is not as much apparent in other poetess' writing, like Ada Jaaffery.
Perveen Shakir seemed to have a freer expression in that regard.
yeah thats the reason why i like her writing so much...
its more on a personal basis... i find it has a very sweet women's touch that anyone can relate to.. a lot of the other shairy ive read gets confusing.. and at times im not sure whether the shair is a male or a female... with hers u know whose doing the talking and whose being talked about.... its easier to relate to and understand..
When Perveen Shakir was sitting for CSP exam (whatever that exam is!) her own ghazal / poem was on that exam for tashree and comments. How interesting in that.
