Participation of Women in Combat War

What are your views of women not only joining the army, but fighting combat war. Do you believe that the physical and psychological affects are different for women than men?

Since the Iraq war women are fully participating in the Army, in the United States. Therefore, if there is ever a military draft, do you think women should have equal opportunity to be drafted as men do?

Also, is there an Islamic perspective on this subject, if so please share.

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

Hmm, good thread.

Wars are fought by technology anyway and women can be just as fast as men so yeah if they have the ability why not

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

^who judges the ability??

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

Nomi- you make a great point as to WHO judges that both genders can complete a military task equally well.

Shak- Just being a devil's advocate, would you be okay with ladies from you family being drafted into war?

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

Men shouldn't even have to face the atrocities of war let alone women.

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

But what about the psychological aspects of war on women. Would they be able to take all the physical as well as psychological trauma of bloodshed and loss of people's lives around them?

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

Yeah i think they will be able to, women operated as nurses in WWII and they saw wounded soldiers and bloodshed and death yet they still dealt with it in war-time.

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

The American military, as far as I know, does not allow women on the front line. They serve as medics etc but do not engage in direct combat, the reasons being obvious. Also, war rape is a well documented phenomenon. It's used to punish and humiliate the enemy and usually only civilian females are the target. If a female soldier got captured, I imagine they would have to endure that.

People do ridiculously harmful things to each other in war.

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

Actually in the US military women ARE on the front lines fighting combat war. And I agree with you that a female prisoner of war would be in a much more difficult position as compared to a male prisoner of war.

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

that isnt like being on the combative war front. Women do serve as paramedics and do nurse the wounded but I doubt they would be able to take everything the same way if given a chance to be on the combat side. Also if a woman gives her life then that is fair enough but what if she is captured as a prisoner of war. What kind of treatment could she get being a woman?

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

Women are too weak for the front line infantry.

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

It's not like they have to wrestle and fight using swords and daggers like in olden days. lol

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

Actually hand to hand combat in close quarters is still the most basic and fundamental aspect of combat.

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

The British army has fought with bayonets (a big knife plugged into the end of a rifle) at some point in most of its major wars over the past 30 years. In 2009 one british officer used his last bullet to kill one Taliban fighter at close quarters when another came around the corner, and he had to stab the man to death with his bayonet

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

There are some women who are stronger than some men and would be perfect for such job. Not all men are stronger than the women that's why a lot of them fail the military tests every year.

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

And talking from an Islamic perspective, there were some Sahabia(ra) who took part in war, one of them even killed a Jewish spy.

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

Suicide pill.

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

Woman tu combat war jaisey taisey larh lai gee liken jub wo wapus ayee gee tu I am now sure how the husband will survive his verbal assaults due to physical and psychological affects of war.

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

Nope. Women will lose in a close combat situation regardless what hollywood says.

Re: Participation of Women in Combat War

There are women who are stronger than men, as there are men who are stronger than other men. For example, ALL women are not going to be listed at the end of the list in-terms of strength within the military. What and who THAN determines weakness within women?

Nature? And maybe the social ideas that women are to wear skirts, and push-bra's, and pretty nails, etc.....So how could they ever fight in front lines in Afgan, because that's a man's job.
