Usually, all kids have arguments here and there with their parents. It’s mainly because of the generation gap, I suppose. It’s hard to understand eachother with such a huge age difference.

Well, the deal with my parents and me is that there’s a generation gap AND there’s a cultural gap as well. That makes it really hard. I hardly ever have arguments with my parents, but sometimes their “over-protectiveness” is really annoying. I guess all Pakistani/Muslim parents are like that…or maybe it’s just mine. =\

So probably the biggest issue is the fact that my parents don’t ever let me go out with my friends. I understand that they’re doing it because they don’t want me to start doing things beyond the limits of Islam, but all I want to do is just spend time OUT with FRIENDS (watch a movie, eat out, go to the mall, etc.) Sometimes they do let me go out…but there’s a whole rack of rules that come along with that…

Rules for going out with friends:
-They say I have to be home before Maghrib time
-They need to know what friends I’ll be with
-I need to have a cell phone with me at all times
-blah blah blah…the list goes on.

When my brother was in high school, my parents let him stay out after dark, and they were hardly strict on him. That’s not fair at all.

it was tough to convince my parents when i use to go out. It took a long time. but I have earned their trust and they will let me go out if i told them. As long as I let them know where I am, I will be fine.

Don't worry. These are part of the teen-age years. As you earn their trust, you will be allowed. But if you set rules for yourself and make them feel that you care, they will allow you.

Not all parents are like that. I didn't do anything to show them they shouldn't trust me. but i'm a girl. . . so therefore i don't know right from wrong.

lol.. well for me all throughout high school i really didn't ever go out with friends or hang out caz my parents were like keep friends and classmates at school only... I guess it changed now since my siblings are alwayz out and hanging w/ their friends.

So anywayz once i came to university, I started hanging out with my friends and going out to eat/ or go see a movie. My parents are pretty laid back since they trust me but if i start going out ALL the time then they will get upset. oh yeah I can NEVER lie to my parents because i would feel guilty and plus im not one of those kids that make up stories and are 2 faced in front of their parents.

I guess i just dont feel like going out much or even going to the movies anymore.. so i stay home most of the time :P

^ Yea I basically just play around in my neighborhood, sit online, do homework…stuff like that during the weekdays. Weekends/Fridays are usually when I’d like to be OUTTTTTTTTT not trapped at home
