Parents =\

Usually, all kids have arguments here and there with their parents. It’s mainly because of the generation gap, I suppose. It’s hard to understand eachother with such a huge age difference.

Well, the deal with my parents and me is that there’s a generation gap AND there’s a cultural gap as well. That makes it really hard. I hardly ever have arguments with my parents, but sometimes their “over-protectiveness” is really annoying. I guess all Pakistani/Muslim parents are like that…or maybe it’s just mine. =\

So probably the biggest issue is the fact that my parents don’t ever let me go out with my friends. I understand that they’re doing it because they don’t want me to start doing things beyond the limits of Islam, but all I want to do is just spend time OUT with FRIENDS (watch a movie, eat out, go to the mall, etc.) Sometimes they do let me go out…but there’s a whole rack of rules that come along with that…

Rules for going out with friends:
-They say I have to be home before Maghrib time
-They need to know what friends I’ll be with
-I need to have a cell phone with me at all times
-blah blah blah…the list goes on.

When my brother was in high school, my parents let him stay out after dark, and they were hardly strict on him. That’s not fair at all.

I’m not a baby anymore. :frowning:

Re: Parents =\

:rotfl:

Re: Parents =\

Had to tell parents exactly where I was going and with who. Wasn't allowed to hang out outside after dark, etc etc etc.

Most of the limits didn't matter. My friends and I were all geeks who hated being outdoors and preferred playing computer and video games all the time instead.

Re: Parents =\

hahaha :D

That's why I sit on GS all week too, man.

I think I'm mutilating into a geek myself. :(

Re: Parents =\

Re: Parents =\

wait till i tell my parents what I am about to do :smokin:

Re: Parents =\

My parents were very strict. All through highschool, I was nt allowed to ever have friends over or hang out with anyone . . .

And then sophomore year college, i realized that it was just easier to lie to them. So i had classes all day long. . .

Re: Parents =\

You weren't allowed to HAVE FRIENDS? yikes. I guess I shouldn't complain. :S

I hate lying to my parents. I know it sounds nerdy, but I really don't like doing it. Then you have to lie more to cover up that first lie, and they'll eventually find out...and even if they don't Allah (swt) knows it all. So why lie in the first place? :(

Re: Parents =\

Yeah but if you're told that the only time you can ever go out of the house is to go to school and that's it. . .

And you're 20 years old you kinda get sick of it
And you know that if you tell them i just wanna hang out with friends
theyre gonna ship you off to paki
cuase youre a bad person

the best thing to do is lie
and remember not to do that to your kids
its very suffocating
