Re: Paper Plates
Heyy..i don't care..if it is paper or non-paper plate. As long as food was good that is all it matters.
Paper Plates
I have a huge khandaan..we're about 65 people all together..so any dawat where the whole clan is together (like Eid or other celebrations) we only use disposable/paper plates..not the cheap flimsy kind, but the sturdier oval shaped Chinette brand or the sectioned ones. I've never seen or heard anyone complain...washing diner plates for that amount of people...ain't nobody got time for that!
Kc- you can always hire a maid to wash the dishes right after the party.
PS: Bawhawhaw the circle is now complete in a way that only a proper fraudia loafer lufanga ayash aubash ghunda badmash can....often imitated never replicated..
Ps2: it was a serious point though.

Maids are expensive!!

Maids are expensive indeed.
The rates for maids are too damn high!!!
Re: Paper Plates
lol they're fine. gotta save on that water and electric. and i mean the plates are already made...so you're not really doing too much damage to the world.
probably have bpa and stuff that messes with hormones though...or something like that
Paper Plates
They're looked down on by cheap personalities that expect silver platters. I know what you mean.
I love my paper plates, my husband doesn't like eating out of them at home but on days we are too tired unless he wants to clean up after I use paper stuff. Personally enjoy my biryani better in it, my husband thinks I'm weird lol.
Re: Paper Plates
I hate eating in paper plates. I was brought up brain-washed this way. Ammi had enough china/porcelain to serve 65 on hand all the time.
I have no issue with washing up afterwards…plates are the easiest things to wash anyway…much easier than glasses at least.

The only time disposable products are “permissible” is at a picnic or when you are in a place where you cannot wash up.
Re: Paper Plates
Curious…so do you give children china/porcelain plates as well?
My family is big as well and we do what Khatti said earlier…use disposable plates for the most part (if we have 50 people or more). Don’t know if it is just my family’s kids…but we would never give them china!
I love using paper plates, so much so that once I loaded an empty section of our pantry with all kinds of paper plates. Sturdy ones for food, thin paper ones for roti (that I always need to have on a separate plate. I can't hold roti in my hand and can't put on the side of same plate that has saalan on it), and Styrofoam ones for salad, snacks our cut fruits.
Re: Paper Plates
LOL. Are you freaking kidding me?
WOW.

yes....the children get the same plates unless their parents ask for plastic or paper in which case they are provided.
ammi always said that children should be treated as much like grown ups as possible so that they have a feeling of being respected. she said that people, in general, will respond in a manner that reflects the treatment they are doled out so if you show the children that you are "trusting" them with delicate things then they will strive to live up to that expectation.
our family was known to hold quite large gatherings and when they were held at our home it was understood that there would be china plates and stainless steel cutlery. the only thing that we used plastic was glasses for cold drinks and styro foam cups for tea.
since everyone appreciated the utensils there was never a shortage of folks wanting to help with the tidy up afterwards.
Golden words on parenting. Awesome. :k:
Re: Paper Plates
^ or just in relationships in general.

That is great. Our children get the same plates as the adults as well..............everyone gets disposable :D
On a serious note.....I think there is a difference between 'paper' plates vs other disposable plates. I can't stand paper plates either....plus they leak. :/
Re: Paper Plates
My mum and I suggested using disposable plates at massive daavats where there are upto 60-70 people in our home but my dad put his foot down and said no.
He said that it is disrespectful to your guests and would give the impression that they were a great burden on you (the idea being that by handing out plates you emphasise how difficult it is to clean up after your guests) - he always used to say "why don't you ask them to cook as well while you're at it?"
I know everyone has different opinions on it, some people are offended by being given a disposable plate and some people aren't but I slowly came round to my dad's way of thinking when I though about how important it is to honour your guests as much as possible. To me personally that means being as hospitable as possible and never leading them to understand that their presence is even potentially difficult. I think it is a shame when people dress up so nicely and the food is cooked so wonderfully, to then ruin the effect by handing out those awful sectioned aeroplane trays, that make you feel as if you're on ryanair or something.
Porcelain all the way!

There's only one good post in this thread and I liked it. The rest seems to be a petty passive aggressive cat fight :(
