should Pakistanis live in Pakistan and try to make their own country better…or should they all run off to the west (whcih they are doing)…just so that they can earn abit more money (which I still think is not true…most pakistanis who come here dont earn much for many reasons.)
if everyones on a mission to come to UK/America…what will become of Pakistan? I think Pakistan has progressed alot…but it would do so much better if all educated Pakistanis actually lived there…(even after they have got their education from another country)…
I mean Tony Blair always talks about how we Pakistanis/Muslims have played a big role in making Britain what it is today…my question is if we all did the same for Pakistan, couldnt we make it progress much much further?
wouldnt u want to live in a country…where ur not treated second class just cuz ur not white (english etc…) ? where theres no racism…and we’re not corrupted by the immoral culture of UK/America…
Re: Pakistans -should they live in Pakistan or in the West?
Their priority is provising as much as they can for their families. If they can provide a better future for their children in the west, then they will go and do it.
Our culture emphasises doing what is best for the family, not sacrificing your family's material prosperity for your country.
Re: Pakistans -should they live in Pakistan or in the West?
Actually its a really good question.... i will try to explain what happened in my case and what i have seen around me .....
i came to usa to do my masters.... i came straigt away after graduating and didnt get to work at all in pakistan ...so my plans were to get done with my Masters and work (just to get some experience) for 1 year and then head back and get a decent job back home...
i have been here for more then 4 years now... as soon as i got out of univ. i got a really nice job and my plan for "gaining experience" extended a little bit....
the bottom line is that when some body asks this question, i am so lost ... i have a great career here, alhamdulillah i lead a decent life and drive a nice car and top of this all i am completly independent....
FEARS
the things that hold me from going back ...
1. stories that i hear from my friends regarding getting jobs back home
2. even if u get a decent job , u still are not completly independent and need to depend on lots of folks to get lost of things done
3. cost of living back home
Now i had a really good offer back home recently but all of my friends and relatives asked me to stay here for some more time ....so i am lost regarding what should i do ...that should i stay here or go back....when u think about ur family , u really want to go back and live with them but at the same time u gotta think like a man and not like a boy any more...
this is exactly how most of my friends feel, who are in the same situation....
i am sure there are different stories as well....
Re: Pakistans -should they live in Pakistan or in the West?
Most families move to the West because they believe their children will have more opportunities there, though the parents themselves may well struggle. And this is true - more opportunities do exist, though not all the children take them.
Aside from that, looking at my dad and his friends in the UK, and his friends in similar jobs in Pakistan… and in Pakistan their families are more messed up.
I’ve always believed that wealth leads to moral corruption, and I have experienced this to some extent myself, but in some enviroments moral corruption leads to greater excesses than in others.
Re: Pakistans -should they live in Pakistan or in the West?
from all the ones I know, the families are more messed up here. kids run off/sleep around/drugs/clubbing/openly doing bad stuff/swearing/disrespect for elders/no morals/no family values/dont want to get married/disrespecting teachers/wanna be whites -coconut/bounties/ depressed/confused/think too much of themselves/think they’re better than everyone else etc. etc. the list goes on…
Re: Pakistans -should they live in Pakistan or in the West?
^I know there are some jokers in Pakistan too....
but over here the kids are totally messed up....they dont know where they belong or who they are.....and what irritates me the most is when they dont even know how to talk properly (be it in english or urdu).....thats why i call them lalloos.
Re: Pakistans -should they live in Pakistan or in the West?
well u cant really generalize it like this ...but i would agreee the most of the cases are like that and to be honest u cant really blame the kids or the parents ... parents cant watch the kids all the time and kids do have to interact with other people and it is then when most of them are lost trying to balance their heritage and integrating with the white society.
Re: Pakistans -should they live in Pakistan or in the West?
^I agree. its not the parents fault....the kids spend all that time in school.....which parents have no control over. and then theres the tv....etc.etc.
Re: Pakistans -should they live in Pakistan or in the West?
those who refuse to integrate by will or without will always feel like on the outside looking in. Integrating into the fabric of your adopted hokmeland doesn't mean you sacrifice your culture, religion etc... wagging a finger at everything western while living in the west is the height of hypocricy and should make a person want to commit suicide to alleviate the pain.
Re: Pakistans -should they live in Pakistan or in the West?
if u go through the above discussion again, u will realize that NOTHING has been generalized…nobody ever said every one is like that or every thing in west is crazy…
i personally feel that there are so many good things that are integral part of western society and not even exist back home…
u r giving a wrong direction to what is being discussed!!!
Re: Pakistans -should they live in Pakistan or in the West?
"wouldnt u want to live in a country....where ur not treated second class just cuz ur not white (english etc....) ? where theres no racism....and we're not corrupted by the immoral culture of UK/America..."
Which part of this statement from the original post are you having trouble draing a parallel to?
Re: Pakistans -should they live in Pakistan or in the West?
There is plenty of racism and prejudice in Pakistan, and it is often far more lethal than the west. And unlike the US/UK, there is no ‘racial commission’, or court you can go to.
every Pakistani would live in Pakistan if they could, but the country has always been run by people who have no care for the betterment of its own people. When they have trouble getting even decent health care or live in fear because of law and order, how can you expect them to turn down living in the West, if they can.
