^^ salman rushdie has written other books than the satanic verses....
the knighthood is not just based on one work but on a whole host of literally accomplishments
i dont subscribe to your view, we've all had a chance to gather our thoughts regarding this matter and the fact that this is an aggressive statement stands out.
you either have ignored the sentiments of billions of people or are further intent on maligning in the future.
what i suggest specifically for your pleasure is an honour for the most honourable man. an honour of upmost importance. i suggest the memory of His Majesty Supreme Adolph Hitler to be recognised and celebrated for eternity. now tell me about accomplishments and ones own business
To achieve a knighthood and be honored for great works of literature , art or other accomplishments in life is truly magnificent.
Personally, I am proud to Salman Rushdie as been recognized for his contributions and I am scratching my head at all the nasty and nefarious condemenations bestowed upon a writer who has done nothing but enlightened and entertained with his works.
It seems there are people who have never read any of his works and are again spewing hatred and condemnation giving rise to much that is being polluted and spoiled within Islam by the ignorant extremist mentality.
As a proud muslim I take this opportunity to express my esteemed admiration that he is respected by many great writers and has contributed positively to society and has achieved great honors and respect.
It is great to see a person of muslim faith today be esteemed by international scholars.
true, but this is the type of easy stuff you can do. anything a run of the mill pakistani MNA says is not going to matter to UK. It will get you a favourable response by Pakistanis, and it costs you zilch.
well they did knight elton john, and not only did he suggest that religion should be banned. He is considered anti-christianity among the conservative folks based on what he has said off and on and has been especially scathing of the catholic church.
Well, didnt know about the Elton John thing... Thanks for clearing that up...

I chose to ignore the sentiments of a billion people because those billion are wrong.
Islam is much stronger than its critics. If you protest Salman Rushdie, challenge him to a debate, instead of burning effigies, uttering death threats, rioting, mass hysteria.
All this shows that Islam is an intolerant religion.

What accomplishments has Adolph Hitler done to warrant a knighthood?
See this kind of ridiculous analogy is exactly the reason why I disagree with people like you.
Salman Rushdie wrote other books such as the great Midnight Children about the effect of partition had on Indian and Pakistani children. And many other books.
If you protest Salman Rushdie, challenge him to a debate,
is that what your doing? protesting, or are you commending and defending?
sick!

yeah like im burning effigies. the fact is whenever someone holds the line of fairness at the correct point you and your types start crying
its time you and your types started recognising the legitimate right of muslims. for not doing this there is no commendation other then what you bestow onto yourselves. sowing the seeds of mistrust and division is easily done by acts such as this knighthood

I agree with you. We Muslims are responsible for giving bad name to Islam.
Re: Pakistan's reaction on Rushdie knighthood (merged)
I am not pro musharraf, I am pro pakistan, and at this time he is better than the other "known" options :) If I see a better option, I will support that option. I think I have stated that already.
but thank you for the appreciation of the comment. I had to hold myself back lest I be banned for what I have to say about this jacque-arse :D
Re: Pakistan's reaction on Rushdie knighthood (merged)
Heard the've been burning effigies of the Queen over in PAK... Over reacting to a non issue perhaps?!?!
What better barometer for the govt economic failings then this.... People with nothing better to do during the day then burn effigies of the Queen of England.
Pakistanis really need to find jobs, or a hobby.
I dont think Rushdie deserves to be Knight :), but lets not blow things out of proportion.
Re: Pakistan's reaction on Rushdie knighthood (merged)
If Muslims choose to see this honour and Rushdie's work as an insult to Islam, that's their problem. Maybe it's time they learned to handle insults a bit better, or maybe try to understand that when people make fun of their religion or play around with its ideas in works of fiction, it's not always with malicious intent to 'undermine Islam' as they often claim. A lot of Muslim people don't want to understand Western culture, they just hate it because they're misinformed..............Before somebody in his thread starts bombarding me, JSYK, I am a resident of SouthPark and am proud of it !!
